Datsyuk officially signed a two-year contract with SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL on Friday, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Datsyuk put the Red Wings in a bind by forgoing the final year of his contract and leaving the team with a $7.5 million cap hit, but Ken Holland, Detroit's general manager, was able to trade that contract to the Coyotes during the draft in order for Arizona to come closer to the cap floor. As noted in the report, the 'Yotes have since granted Datsyuk the right to sign with the Russian club, and he'll make the equivalent to $3.9 million. At 37 years old, it's doubtful that the Magic Man will ever reappear in the NHL.
