DAILY PRIME - OCTOBER 19, 2013: JETS NOT BLUE; DUCKS OUTLAST COYOTES primepucks.com Sat 10/19/13 9:17 AM

Although the Blues lost last night in a shootout to Winnipeg, St. Louis left wing Alexander Steen continued his torrid pace this season as he had 2 goals.  Steen now has 7 goals and 4 assists in 7 games played.  While he will not continue this pace, right now he is very hot.  Play him while he is doing so well... Evander Kane had a goal for the Jets. There was some concern that he might not play last night because of a leg injury, but he seems to be alright.  Kane has 4 goals and 6 points on the season.  We are very high on him, and he could be a top scorer in the league in a few years....Center Dave Backes had a goal and an assist for the Blues. While Steen has been hot, Backes is really now the focus of the St. Louis offense.  He topped all Blues players with 2:52 in power play time last night, and he now has 6 goals and 3 assists in 7 games played this year.  Play him if you can....Watching last night's game I was a little bit surprised how much top ice time St. Louis Coach Ken Hitchcock is giving to veteran defenseman Jay Bouwmeester. He seemed to be on the ice at every critical moment, and he got a lot of power play time.   Bouwmeester never really lived up to his potential, but Hitchcock appears to believe in him.  He has 5 assists in 7 games, but with the type of ice time he is getting he could be a decent 4th defenseman this season....If Brian Elliott thinks he is going to take back the starting goalie job with the Blues, he is going to have to play better than last night, as he lost the game and gave up 3 goals on 29 shots. You should expect Jaroslav Halak to be back in goal for St. Louis for their next game. Killer Hiller: The Anaheim Ducks have really been on a roll lately, and last night they won their 6th straight game with a 3-2 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes in a shootout. One of the reasons for their sucess has been the stellar play of their goaltender Jonas Hiller. Hiller had 30 saves last night as he outdueled Coyotes' goaltender Mike Smith. Hiller's record is now 4-0 on the year with a 1.44 goals against average and a .954 save percentage.  He is having a great start to the season.  His back-up Viktor Fasth is out with a lower body injury, so Hiller should get a lot of starts in the near future. Play him if you can....The ageless wonder, Anaheim right wing Teemu Selanne, had a goal for the Ducks. Even at 43 years old he can still bring it, and now has 5 points in 6 games played this year. Some day he will hit a wall, but for now he still is a decent 6th forward option.
