DAILY PRIME-NOVEMBER 9, 2014: SUNDAY ROUNDUP primepucks.com Sun 11/9/14 5:42 AM

A few high-scoring affairs last night beefed up the point totals for many fantasy teams, such as Pittsburgh's 6-1 demolition of the AHL's Buffalo Sabres. I had to say that, given that Ted Nolan's crew has been a doormat for every team they have been lining up against. Sidney Crosby led the way with five assists;Kris Letang was a dominant blue-line presence with two goals and two assists; and Patrick Hornqvist continues his breakout dream season with two goals and an assists. All fun and games for the Penguins in this one. I started Crosby and Hornqvist in my daily fantasy league contest and safe to say, they carried me to victory.. Huge nights for the Flyer's electrifying tandem of Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek, as they combined for two goals and four assists in the win over Colorado. We expected as much firepower from Giroux, but his buddy "Jake" entered the game tied for the NHL lead in points with Sidney Crosby-19. So he got three and Sid got five last night. Still a thrilling beginning with 22 points in 14 games and all on his lonesome in second place.. Wayne Simmonds was moved up to the top line, playing LW in place of the injured Michael Raffl. He responded with a goal and an assist, hopefully the sign of a upcoming "hot streak" to come. This situation bears watching as he could pile up a career-high in points if he plays with the top guns at even-strength.. Young Tyler Johnson is on "fire" for the Lightning to start the season, scoring two more goals and adding to his team lead of 17 points in 14 games. I wouldn't bet any sort of money that he continues to out-score Mr. Steven Stamkos, but you need to keep riding him while he is hot.. Memo to Ryan Callahan owners- enjoy the ride while you can, as feisty winger rarely stays healthy long enough to fulfill his fantasy potential. Another strong effort while playing shotgun on the top line, delivering a goal and two helpers... The "Wiz" returns to the Columbus line-up, as defenseman James Wisniewski had three assists and was a force on the power-play all night long. Get him in your fantasy lineups ASAP.. Hey, what a coincidence in the Carolina-Washington contest- the "red-hot" Cam Ward sits out and the Canes allow four goals in the OT loss. Anton Khudobin had his chance and now Cam should hold onto the starting job for a long while... Justin Faulk has been playing well during the Carolina resurgence, collecting two more assists for five points in the last five games. Grab the 22-year old off the waiver wire if he is still available. The window of opportunity is closing quickly.. Elias Lindholm has also been a major reason for the Cane's big offensive turnaround, collecting seven points in the last five games. The 19-year old warrants major fantasy consideration as he is on a roll.. Center Derek Stepan returned for the Ranger's in their tilt against Toronto, and while the team lost 5-4, the offense should be pretty steady now with two balanced scoring lines. I can't help to think that Derick Brassard's numbers will take a hit as he is no longer the top pivot on Broadway.. Phil Kessel scores another power-play goal to keep him in the upper echelon of fantasy wingers, but line-mate James van Riemsdyk has been a mild disappointment. We expected more than maybe he can actually give. Probably closer to a 65-point guy than one who can deliver consistent 75-80 pt. production. Tyler Seguin capped another huge performance with a "hat trick" for Dallas in their 5-3 loss to San Jose, raising his point total to 19 in 14 games. While he is obviously worthy of elite status in fantasy leagues, I can't help to think that he needs to raise his consistency if he is to be mentioned in the same breath as Sidney Crosby and Steven Stamkos. 10 of his 19 points came in three games, but nine in the remaining 11 games is not so bad.. Right now, Logan Couture and Brent Burns are the two "hottest" Sharks going, so start them with super confidence.. The New York Islanders keep cruising on their road trip, as goalie Jaroslav Halak delivered a 19-save shutout performance in the 1-0 win over Arizona. It seems that that he is finally getting over an early season funk with just five goals allowed over his last three starts. Consider starting him during the upcoming scoring period.. A slew of multi-point efforts headlined the Los Angeles King's 5-1 triumph over Vancouver, including Tyler Toffoli's one goal and two assists. The return of Anze Kopitar and Marian Gaborik should cut into Toffoli's numbers, as he will be hard-pressed to continue on his point-per-game clip when the top line begins to click.. D-men Jake Muzzin (1G/1A) and Alec Martinez(3A) are also known for streaky scoring binges, so maybe give them a look as short-term fantasy additions . Don't look now but early season goalie sensation Darcy Kuemper has struggled mightily of late as he has allowed four or more goals in 4 of his last five starts. He was thoroughly outplayed by Carey Price in Montreals 4-1 rout of the Wild last night.. Thomas Vanek should be a fantasy must-start next week, despite an uneventful start to the season. A four-game slate and no Zach Parise should translate to an uptick in Vanek's numbers. A couple of tight 2-1 games landed in favor of Winnipeg and Nashville on the road, as goalies Pekka Rinne and Ondrej Pavelec continue to be super stingy in the crease. Rinne is a flat-out elite fantasy option in goal, but Pavelec is coming up strong with his recent play. I would say both deserve recognition as fantasy comeback kids early on...
