DAILY PRIME - JANUARY 15, 2014: BOZAK BIG, BISHOP TOO AND PRIME 100... primepucks.com Wed 1/15/14 6:44 AM

Lots of action in the NHL last night as there were 11 games played. The Maple Leafs beat the Bruins 4-3 as center Tyler Bozak had a big game with 2 goals and an assist. Bozak has a tendency to get hurt and at 27 he is about as good as he is going to get, but when he is healthy he is productive.  He has 22 points in 24 games this year, and he has 6 points in his last 5 games.  Toronto right wing Phil Kessel had a big game as well with 3 assists. Kessel has 7 points in his last 3 games, and with 45 points on the season he is a top fantasy forward.  Patrice Bergeron had a goal and an assist for Boston, but with only 27 points on the season he has been an underperformer. He does have a +17 rating which helps...Tampa Bay beat the Rangers 2-1 as Lightning goalie Ben Bishop continued his remarkable season with a brilliant 33 save game. Bishop has 23 wins on the season, and his 1.83 goals against and .937 save percentage are outstanding.  He should have been on the US Olympic team...San Jose beat Washington in a shootout 2-1.  The interesting thing about this game was Capitals Coach Adam Oates decided to play Philipp Grubauer in goal. Despite the loss Grubauer played well with 28 saves.  He may be the top choice in goal in Washington going forward.  Scott Hartnell had a big game for the Flyers against Buffalo with a goal and 2 assists, and he has been hot lately. Hartnell is hot and cold, which can drive poolies crazy. He scored 37 goals and 67 points in 2011-2012, but he has only 22 points on the season.  Don't chase him. Jagr can still play! The 41 year old right wing from the Czech Republic had a goal and an assist last night in the Devils win over Montreal.  Jagr has 38 points on the season in 48 games played.  He is a long way from the player who used to play with Mario Lemieux in the 1980's and 1990's, once scoring 199  points in one season, but with 38 points on the season, he is still a viable 6th forward option. Islanders goal situation: The Islanders have been hot lately winning 7 of their last 9 games.  But with their starting goaltender Evgeni Nabokov down with a quadriceps injury, young Kevin Poulin is minding the net for New York. Poulin was bad yesterday against Florida allowing 4 goals on 26 shots.  His numbers are not good this year with a 9-13-0 record and a 3.12 goals against and a .895 save percentage.  Nabokov should be back soon, and Poulin will go back to the bench. Varlamov is good: Colorado goaltender Semyon Varlamov had a big game last night in the Avalanche's win over Chicago with 46 saves in a 3-2 OT win. He has 22 wins on the season with a 2.33 goals against and a .927 save percentage.  Top fantasy goalie!  Ryan O'Reilly had a PPG for Colorado, and with 31 points on the season, he is not really fantasy worthy, but we think the 22 year old has a lot of potential. Halak or Elliott?: The St. Louis goaltending situation remains murky, as Jaroslav Halak has returned from injury and played in the last 2 games allowing only one goal. Halak had 20 saves in the Blues 2-1 victory over Phoenix yesterday.  Both Halak and Brian Elliott have played well this year. Halak has a 19-6-3 record while Elliott is 13-2-2.  Both great numbers.  It seems that St. Louis Coach Ken Hitchcock has a tendency to start Halak when he is healthy.  But expect Elliott to get a lot of ice time, which decreases both of their fantasy values.  T J Oshie had both goals for the Blues, and with 39 points on the season, the US Olympian is a solid fantasy forward pick. More Fantasy News: It looks like Carter Hutton and Marek Mazanec will rotate in goal for Nashville until Pekka Rinne returns from injury. That makes both of them low fantasy values.  David Legwand had 3 assists for the Predators, but with only 31 points on the season we can't recommend him...Kyle Turris had a goal and an assist last night for Ottawa in their win over Minnesota. While he has only 36 points on the season, we like this kid a lot and he has upside potential at only 24 years old. Robin Lehner had the shutout for the Senators, and while he has better metrics than Craig Anderson, Anderson has been playing better lately, and has won 6 of his last 7 games, so he will get most of the ice time...Dallas center Jamie Benn broke out of a slump with a goal and an assist last night in the Stars 5-2 win over Edmonton. Benn has 39 points on the season, so he is a solid fantasy forward.  He, also plays on a line with Tyler Seguin. There is some talk in Dallas about separating the two of them, but for now they are on the same line. The Edmonton goaltending situation is a disaster as both Devan Dubnyk and Ilya Bryzgalov both have goals against over 3.00. Please avoid them.
