Coach Dan Bylsma wouldn't commit to naming a starter for Game 5 on Thursday, but Pittsburgh-Tribune Review columnist Dejan Kovacevic believes it's time for the Penguins to turn to Tomas Vokoun.
Marc-Andre Fluery has allowed 14 goals on 102 shots over his past three games against the New York Islanders and he's permitted a whopping 40 goals in his last 10 playoff appearances. Vokoun was brought on board by the Penguins to ease Fleury's workload in the regular season, but his secondary purpose according to Kovacevic was to serve as a "Plan B" option in the playoffs. Bylsma appears to be considering a change and he spoke highly of Vokoun after Tuesday's 6-4 loss, where Fleury looked particularly shaky on some plays. "Certainly, Tomas Vokoun is a guy that can step in and play and has had success and won hockey games against this team, was successful this year," said Bylsma. "We're going to come out for Game 5 with a refocus." This doesn't confirm a change in goal, but there are probably many people who wouldn't be surprised if it happens.
