Buffalo Sabres G Darcy Regier said that the Buffalo Sabres did not send a damaged Derek Roy to the Dallas Stars.
Roy, who was dealt to the Stars last week, underwent surgery to repair an injured shoulder on Wednesday, but Dallas GM Joe Nieuwendyk agreed that Roy was not damaged goods. "It was an elective [surgery], a choice," said. "He could have played. He did play with it. It was a decision made by that organization. I spoke to Joe before when we went through all the medical records prior to when we made the trade. [Roy] was rehabbing, he played with the shoulder last year and he would have played going forward." The extra damage was found when the Stars medical staff gave Roy a more comprehensive medical exam. Roy will be out until November but if there is a lockout or strike in the NHL, it may not matter.
