Budaj agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension with Tampa Bay on Monday worth $1.025 million annually, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.
EDGE Analysis
With the roster freeze in place, this deal is not yet official but as been agreed to in principle, per Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times. Budaj figures to continue serving in a backup role behind Andrei Vasilevskiy but could certainly see some significant ice time if Vasil struggles as he has in the past. Another consideration with this deal is the Vegas expansion draft as Budaj is still an option and could be selected to serve as the backup in the desert. This past season, the 34-year-old posted a 30-21-3 record, including a remarkable seven shutouts, so it wouldn't be a surprise to hear his name kicked around the Golden Knights' draft room.
