Brendan Smith will return to the back end Thursday night versus Pittsburgh. He lined up as a forward in Tuesday's win over Toronto, but in that contest the Red Wings lost Jonathan Ericsson for the rest of the season due to a fractured finger. Smith has three goals and 15 points in 57 games this year.
