After securing his new deal, Bourque was placed on waivers in order to create roster flexibility, Terry Frei of the Denver Post reports. Assuming he is unclaimed of waivers, the winger could still be on the Avs' Opening Night roster, but can then be moved between the majors and minors when necessary throughout the season.
