Both Karl Alzner and the Capitals are pleased with the contract signed by the defenseman Friday. The deal values Alzner at $1.75 million for the second year of the deal, but the overall contract value still presents a lower cap hit than his previous contract, which provides the Caps with a shutdown defender at a reasonable salary. Much of Alzner's value lies in his defensive prowess so his prospects in fantasy leagues are minimal.
