Beauchemin will be bought out of the last year of his $4.5 million contract.
EDGE Analysis
Beauchemin saw a significant drop in production this season as he registered a mere five goals and 13 helpers in 81 games. The 37-year-old logged 21:31 of ice time -- which includes lining up on both the power play and penalty kill -- but didn't contribute enough to justify a $4.5 million cap hit. By buying out his contact the Avs will save $3 million in 2017-18 that they can use to kick off their rebuild after a disastrous season. If the veteran can secure a role with another club, it will likely be for a significant discount.
