Backstrom scored his 12th goal of the year and assisted on Alex Ovechkin's goal later in the third period Monday, helping the Caps send the game to overtime, though they ended up with a 4-3 loss to the Isles. Backstrom had been held off the scoresheet for two straight games -- just the fourth time all year that's happened -- but as he so often does, he bounced back with a quality effort. With 12 goals in 36 games now, he's on pace for 27, which would be the second-best total of his career.
