Backes returned to the ice Monday against the Panthers but did so with a face cage, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports. Backes left the ice for a brief period of time before making his eventual return after suffering an apparent injury to the face. When considering that he was able to play through the injury Monday, it seems reasonable to assume that he'll be in good shape to play Thursday against the Islanders.
