Antti Niemi (cyst) hopes to resume practicing this week. Niemi might be available for the Sharks' preseason opener, but nothing has been decided. He was always projected to be the team's number one goaltender, but the Sharks will rely on him even more now that backup netminder Antero Niittymaki underwent hip surgery.
