Anton Volchenkov has been placed on unconditional waivers by New Jersey and the Devils will use a compliance buyout on him. He had two years and a total of $8.5 million left on a six-year, $25.5 million contract. Volchenkov will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1 after he clears. The Devils had been hesitant to use their final compliance buyout, but the move will give them some cap flexibility.
