Andrew MacDonald is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and the Islanders could trade him if they cannot sign him. MacDonald currently has 20 points in 43 games this season and if the Islanders determine that they will not make the playoffs and are unable to sign the defenseman, then MacDonald should be traded. GM Garth Snow refused to comment as to whether or not negotiations on a new contract have started.
