Although they tried, the Senators were not able to secure a first-round pick in this year-s entry draft for disgruntled center Jason Spezza. The Blues were the closest to making a deal for Spezza but they decided to keep their 21st overall pick and select Booby Fabbri. It is not clear where Spezza, who has requested a trade, will go now. This situation has the potential to drag on over the summer which would not be a good thing for Ottawa GM Bryan Murray, the Sens or Spezza. Of course, after a number of free agents sign next week, things could loosen up again. The Predators are said to be looking for a number one pivot to team with newly-acquired James Neal. Spezza could fit the bill if he would agree to waive his no-trade provision to Nashville. Stay tuned.
