After finishing fourth in voting last year, Gaudreau captured his first Lady Byng Memorial Trophy.
EDGE Analysis
Gaudreau finished with just four penalty minutes for the 2016-17 season, and was also one of four players who took two penalties with at least 50 games played. His first penalty was a high sticking call 46 games into the season against Penguins, and he was called for diving just a month later against the Islanders. Voters clearly weren't bothered by his diving penalty, especially seeing how Gaudreau was a victim of a league-wide epidemic of slashing at the hands of the puck carrier, which fractured his finger and required surgery. The slick playmaking winger has garnered votes for the Byng in each of his three seasons in the NHL, and should be a candidate to win the award multiple times in the future.
