AIM HIGH, BUY LOW  SHOOT HIGH, AIM LOW by YES  https://youtu.be/CNnKau1OLp4 As we reach the 10-game mark or thereabouts, time to take a look at the slow-starters.  For those poolies who drafted the players mentioned in this article, its decision time as to whether you want to drop, trade or stick with the underperforming.  I’ve separated the defensemen from the forwards into different tables but here are my BUY LOW candidates on the blue line, which I hope will help you make your decision easier; DEFENSEMEN  GAMES POINTS SOG +/- HITS Pietrangelo-STL 9 1 12 -6 19 Leddy-NYI 8 0 4 -4 13 Goligoski-ARZ 9 1 12 -6 3 Shattenkirk-NYR 9 2 21 -4 4 Hamilton-CAR 10 4 44 0 17 Theodore-LVS 10 2 30 -6 9 Miller,C-LVS 10 1 19 -2 13   Phaneuf-LAK 10 0 9 -7 19   Pulock,R-NYI 8 1 17 -3 9     As you can see form the table above, most of these defensemen are producing at less than career averages, so you should see a return to normal levels as the season progresses.  Especially when you look at players like Alex Pietrangelo and Nick Leddy where they play a prominent role in terms of minutes played plus playing on the top PP units.  Both players should get you at least 40 points over the remainder of the season (approx. 70 gms.).  Those would be my top 2 targets. The rest may be on your waiver wire because of their slow starts.  Most are depth defensemen at best but are consistent and are good in case of an injury to one of your top defensemen. I would put the likes of Kevin Shattenkirk & Dougie Hamilton above the remaining players as they have scoring pedigree and it looks like the NY Rangers are starting to score more and their power play is starting to gel, while the Carolina Hurricanes are scoring and winning, it is just taking the newcomer time to adjust to his new team. Rounding out the leftovers, Shea Theodore of the Las Vegas Golden Knights is a great selection especially for those in dynasty/keeper leagues as he is young and has been quite active but hasn’t been hitting the score sheet with just 2 points in 10 games played.  Another in the same category of Theodore is Ryan Pulock of the Islanders.  Both have potential but Theodore has more of a chance to contribute because of the presence of Leddy in New York sharing time with Pulock.  Along with Theodore’s team mate Colin Miller, Arizona Coyote Alex Goligoski and LA King Dion Phaneuf, these players should net you around 30-35 points over the next 70+ games.  Keep them on your list and maybe you can pry them away cheap.   On to the forwards.  There are a lot more forwards that can make an impact who are off to slow starts whereas defensemen are tough to find because of the limited number of spots capable of contributing on offense.  Here is the table of forwards that are good BUY LOW candidates; FORWARDS GAMES POINTS SOG +/- HITS Pacioretty-LVS 10 2 26 -4 22 Couturier-PHI 10 3 20 -3 6 Mantha-DET 10 3 20 -12 13 Mittelstadt-BUF 10 2 17 -5 4 Pearson-LAK 7 0 13 -5 5 Kopitar-LAK 9 3 19 -1 11 Beauvillier-NYI 7 0 13 -5 5       Max Pacioretty and Anze Kopitar should be at the top of your BUY LOW lists when it comes to forwards.  Kopitar had himself a career year last season at eh age of 30 with 92 points but he should return to more normal levels which should be around the 70-point mark.  Give Max Pac a few weeks to adjust to Vegas style of play but once he starts to heat up it will be next to impossible to pry him away.  Expect 60-65 as a comfortable level as Pacioretty only has 2 points in 10 games. Sean Couturier only has had only one good point-producing season so last season may have been an aberration but remember he is recovering from surgery in the off-season, so perhaps he is still not at 100%. You would think playing with Giroux would eventually see him start to amass points more consistently.  21-year old Anthony Beauvillier and 19-year old Casey Mittelstadt are young dynamic players that just need to keep pushing and eventually their talents will start to shine through.  Beauvillier had 36 points in almost a full season with the Isles last year and with 0 points in 7 games so far this season, it’s just a matter of time before he starts hitting twine.  Keep him on your watch list and wait for him to start producing regularly.  Mittelstadt should be on your Dynasty team but if not, grab him and stash him as a he will be a star one day.  He did have some success at the end of last season with 5 points in 6 games.  He’s centering the 3rd line but centers the top PP unit in Buffalo so far this season.  Monitor his game stats especially playing time on the power play. I’ve been waiting for Tanner Pearson to have a breakout season and if he ever had an opportunity, it would be with this year’s team with Ilya Kovalchuk in the lineup.  Another player to keep on the watch list.  Detroit Red Wing Anthony Mantha has true goal-scoring potential and it just may take a little more time for him to start dominating the score sheet in Detroit.  The plus/minus is a blemish on his stats but if the Red Wings can start stringing together some good offensive efforts, it may be the time to try and grab him from an unsuspecting fantasy owner. Some injured players to consider: Philadelphia Flyer James van Riemsdyk, Las Vegas Golden Knight Paul Stastny, Arizona Coyote Alex Galchenyuk, San Jose Shark Joe Thornton and defenseman Seth Jones of the Columbus Blue Jackets are players to possibly try and get on the cheap as they are either currently injured or just coming off the IR.  All solid offensive contributors with Seth Jones being the darling of the group. The key is to take chances on players underperforming in hopes that they will return to career levels.  The only thing that will hurt their chances of returning to form is if they are hiding and playing through injury.  I wouldn’t give up too much in trying to obtain the top players in this group, and only if you have space to stash them away until they start producing at normal levels.
