A mural of Maxim Afinogenov was included in Buffalo's new Alumni Plaza as one of the team's all-time great players. In nine seasons with the Sabres, he posted 334 points, including 200 assists, to rank himself 18th in team scoring. He was a popular player for a time and enjoyed his best NHL campaign in 2005-06 when he potted 22 goals and 73 points in 77 contests. However, his inclusion over players like Dale Hawerchuk, Miroslav Satan, Don Luce and Rob Ray is a bit surprising. It may have been by design though sine the mural include all the eras of Sabres hockey and his presence evens out the decades. Afinogenov hasn't played hockey at the NHL level since 2009-10 when he played for Atlanta. He has been in the KHL for the past two years.
