Clitsome (back) announced his retirement from hockey Wednesday, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Clitsome has undergone multiple surgeries on his back. His failing a pre-training camp physical prevented him from suiting up with the Jets in the 2015-16 season. Drafted by the Blue Jackets with a ninth-round pick in 2004, Clitsome was claimed off waivers by Winnipeg in 2012. The 31-year-old, lauded as a smooth skater, spent six years in the NHL, recording 71 points (15 goals, 56 assists) in 205 games.

Clitsome did not pass his physical and, as a result, will not play for the Jets this season, Ed Tait of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's an incredibly unfortunate turn of events for the 30-year-old defender, who has required season-ending back surgeries in each of the last two campaigns. This latest development in Clitsome's lengthy injury history leads one to wonder if the former ninth-round pick's career as an NHL defender has come to an end.

Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff said Wednesday that Clitsome (back) is "probably not likely" to skate when training camp begins next week, Tim Campbell of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Clitsome has required season-ending back surgeries in each of the last two campaigns, and is still recovering from his latest procedure. Since the 30-year-old last suited up for a game on Jan. 3, the Jets have bolstered their defense by moving Dustin Byfuglien back over from forward and by acquiring Tyler Myers. Those additions may make Clitsome at risk of losing a roster spot once he's healthy enough to play again, and it's uncertain when that time may come. The Jets will probably see how he progresses in the next couple of weeks before offering a timetable for his return.

Clitsome (back) will visit a surgeon in Los Angeles later this week, Ed Tait of the Winnipeg Free Press reports. Clitsome underwent back surgery in January and is projected to miss the remainder of the season. The meeting with the doctor who performed his procedure should provide more clarity on how far he's come along in his recovery to this point. The blueliner has appeared in just 56 games over the last two seasons combined.

Clitsome (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Thursday. The move doesn't qualify as much of a surprise after Clitsome was ruled out indefinitely upon undergoing a surgical procedure Wednesday. Zach Bogosian was activated from IR in a corresponding move.

Clitsome had surgery Wednesday to address an upper-body injury and is out indefinitely. Clitsome was originally expected to miss a week or two due to an undisclosed injury, but it looks like that timetable has now been extended substantially. The blueliner likely won't have a clearer return date until he's able to resume skating. His absence is a much bigger blow to his club than fantasy owners, as Clitsome has only managed to tally four points through 24 games with the Jets this season.

Clitsome is listed as day-to-day but is expected to miss a week or two due to an undisclosed injury. Clitsome's injury likely originated in Saturday's game against the Maple Leafs, though it just became evident Monday. The announcement of an injury was foreshadowed be the recall of Keaton Ellerby on Monday, who, along with Julien Brouillette, figures to see some ice time in Clitsome's absence.

Clitsome (lower body) was activated from injured reserve Saturday. Clitsome didn't skate with a regular pairing during the team's morning session, so despite his activation, he could be a healthy scratch for the Jets on Saturday. Despite the absences of Clitsome and top-four blueliners Toby Enstrom and Zach Bogosian, the Jets have been playing quality hockey of late, which may make coach Paul Maurice reluctant to bring Clitsome back into the fold right away.

The Jets placed Clitsome (undisclosed) on injured reserve Monday. Clitsome will be out another week and a half, so the Jets placed him on injured reserve to open up a roster spot for Patrice Cormier.

Clitsome (undisclosed) has been ruled out for two weeks, Paul Friesen of the Winnipeg Sun reports. While Clitsome (one point in 16 games) isn't exactly an essential component to the Jets' success, his absence couldn't come at a more inconvenient time, as Tobias Enstrom (lower body) and Zach Bogosian (lower body) were both ruled out with long-term injuries Thursday. The Jets recalled Julien Brouillette from AHL St. John's to temporarily restore some depth on defense, while Dustin Byfuglien could also move over from forward to help out on the blue line.
