DAILY PRIME TODAY: PRESEASON FANTASY BITS & NHL IN 30 CONTINUES; CO... primepucks.com Sun 9/29/13 10:52 AM

UPDATE:  Toronto traded away Center Joe Colborne to the Calgary Flames for a 4th round draft pick instead of risking losing him on the waiver wire. Colborne was a 1st round draft pick in 2008 by the Boston Bruins but now joins his third team in hopes of sticking with the big club.  He will have every chance with the Flames as they are clearly in the rebuilding mode.  Might be worth a shot but don't expect a lot of production just yet. PRESEASON FANTASY BITS: The Florida Panthers recently signed forward Brad Boyes and defenseman Tom Gilbert to one-year contracts. With the addition of goaltender Tim Thomas, and the return of Kris Versteeg, the Panthers have become a little tougher to play against....Versteeg missed a big chunk of last season with an injury, but he has looked good so far in preseason.  He scored two goals and had an assist last night against Tampa Bay. Versteeg had good chemistry with Tomas Fleischmann a couple of years ago, maybe they can rekindle that this season. He may be worth a late round pick... Steve Stamkos and Martin St. Louis scored tor Tampa and they are both first round picks. Don't be shy about St. Louis' age, he did lead the NHL in scoring last season which means, he still got it!... James Reimer is showing that he wants to maintain the starting job in goal for Toronto, as he allowed only one goal against Detroit, and he had 24 saves. Jonathan Bernier has played well in camp also, so this is going to be a tough decision for Coach Randy Carlyle to make.  Expect them to split a lot of games, which means their fantasy value takes a hit... Young defenseman Nick Leddy had a big night for Chicago, scoring 2 goals and adding an assist in the Blackhawks 4-3 OT victory. The 22 year old has a lot of offensive potential and could score 40 points this season.  Draft him accordingly.. Forward Marcus Johansson scored a goal for the Capitals, and we a very high on this kid. Expect him to break out this season....Veteran defenseman Dan Boyle had two power play goals in San Jose's 6-5 win over Anaheim. Boyle may fall in your draft because he had a mediocre year last season, but we think he can still bring it, especially on the power play... The Ducks were badly oushot by the Sharks by 39-18, and they have not had a good preseason. Jonas Hiller got lit up in goal for Anaheim, although he did make 33 saves.  We expect him to get the majority of starts this year over Viktor Fasth... Great news for Colorado fans and fantasy players who own ...

DAILY PRIME- SEPTEMBER 4, 2013: FANTASY INJURY NOTES, ATTENTION FAN... primepucks.com Wed 9/4/13 5:10 AM

Carolina GM Jim Rutherford expressed concerns whether defenseman Joni Pitkanen will be ready for the start of the season. After undergoing surgery on a broken heel bone in April, Pitkanen's timetable for his return to the ice is still unclear. He will have a CT test on Thursday, which should give the team a better idea of how he has progressed so far. Justin Faulk's fantasy value keeps rising... According to Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal, Ryan-Nugent Hopkins participated in an informal skate and showed no ill-effects from shoulder surgery. Monitor the the third-year center's progress during training camp, but he looks on schedule to start the season. Prime candidate for a rebound... Brian Gionta looks iffy for the start of training camp for Montreal, as he still recovering from left bicep injury. Regardless of his availability, the veteran does not figure to have much fantasy value, as 50-55 points is his ceiling for offensive production at this point of his career. ***ATTENTION FANTASY HOCKEY LEAGUE COMMISSIONERS*** If you are the commissioner of an upcoming fantasy hockey league and will be holding a draft soon, PrimePucks has some goodies for you to distribute to your league members.  Look even better to your league members by giving them free stuff.  Who doesn't like free stuff?  Contact cj@primepucks.com to find out more. DAILY PRIME AUGUST 17, 2013: LEFT WING GABRIEL LANDESKOG SIGNS HUGE... primepucks.com Sat 8/17/13 4:43 PM

Gabriel Landeskog signed a 7 year $39 million extension a few days ago with Colorado.  The 20 year old is the youngest Captain ever in the history of the NHL.  He scored 22 goals and 52 points in the 2011-2012 season winning the Calder Trophy as the best rookie in the NHL.  Last year he received a huge hit by San Jose defenseman Brad Stuart, suffered what was likely a concussion, missed 12 games and struggled when he came back, and he scored only 17 points. Landeskog plays on the left wing on Colorado's second line, but he gets lots of power play time, and we are big believers in his talent. We expect him to have a bounce-back year.  The Avalanche have already locked up center Matt Duchene with a 5 year $30 million contract, so Vice President of Operations Joe Sakic is betting the future on these two young forwards. He sees them every day, and understands what talent they have.  Expect Landeskog to have a big season with 70+ points. Antti Raanta The Chicago Blackhawks signed Finnish goaltender Antti Raanta to a one year contract in June. Raanta is 24 years old, and he was lights out in the Finnish league SM Liiga for Assat Pori.  He went 21-10-11 with a 1.85 goals against average and a .943 save percentage.  He was even better in the playoffs with a 12-4 record, a 1.33 goals against average and a .955 save percentage, and he was named the most valuable player of the regular season and the most outstanding player in the playoffs.  With Ray Emery gone to Philadelphia, Chicago brought in 40 year old Nikolai Khabibulin to be the back-up to starter Corey Crawford. Khabibulin is no longer capable of playing every day if something happened to Crawford.  When training camp opens we will see how well Raanta plays in North America, and if he can adjust quickly to the smaller ice surface.  The interesting aspect of this situation is that Crawford is an unrestricted free agent after this year.  While Raanta may start the season in the AHL, he may take over Khabibulin's back-up job, and if the Blackhawks have trouble in resigning Crawford, he may get a shot at a starting goalie job next year.  He appears to have all the skills necessary.  Watch him in training camp.
