THE GOALIE EDGE: 11/6/2013 primepucks.com Wed 11/6/13 3:12 PM
ALL GOALIES CONFIRMED UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED AT TIME OF PRINT
The first game on the slate tonight features Marc-Andre Fleury (10-2) of the Pittsburgh Penguins against Henrik Lundqvist (4-6) of the NY Rangers. Both goaltenders have been playing well of late, with Lundqvist turning around his play after an early season horror show. After a tough 2-1 loss to hot rookie G Frederik Andersen of Anaheim last time out, expect the King to continue his fine play against the Pens. This one is too close to call, but I'll give the edge to the home team Rangers.....Expect Al Montoya to grab another start in goal, this time against his hometown Chicago Blackhawks, after his stellar play in the Jets victory against the Detroit Red Wings. With another fine effort, there could be a goaltending controversy brewing in Winnipeg, as his numbers outshine starter Ondrej Pavelec's. The Jets may also want to avenge the 5-1 loss they took at home against them just a few days ago. Corey Crawford is a lock as Chicago wants to clean their palate of the sour taste leftover from their 3-2 overtime loss to the Calgary Flames on Sunday....How can you go against one of the hottest goaltenders on one of the hottest teams in Semyon Varlamov of the Colorado Avalanche? You just can't. Plus the Avs are playing at home against the Nashville Predators, who will be starting rookie Carter Hutton (LIKELY) as he continues to man the crease as starter Pekka Rinne's continues his recovery from his hip infection, which may actually be an E. coli infection. The Preds lack an elite scoring forward but Colorado has been playing so well since the start of the season, it wouldn't matter if they did, indeed, have one. Safe to go with Varlamov on home ice....Does red-hot Phoenix G Mike Smith (LIKELY) get the call in the second game of back-to-back nights? Does Jonas Hiller get to start even though sensational rookie Frederik Andersen (LIKELY) is fast becoming a fan favorite? It may be a bit of a letdown for the Coyotes after they defeated the Vancouver Canucks in a shootout last night. Go with the Ducks no matter who starts in net.
FANTASY MUST-STARTS
Corey Crawford, Chicago vs. Winnipeg
Semyon Varlamov, Colorado vs. Nashville
SLEEPER ALERT
None.
DAILY GOALIE PICKS

DAILY PRIME NOVEMBER 5 2013: GREAT DANE CONQUERS THE KING; TEAM RAN... primepucks.com Tue 11/5/13 8:32 AM
I don't know what it is with backup goalies in Anaheim, but they sure know how to make an entrance into the NHL. Last year it was Viktor Fasth's incredible start to the season and this year it looks like it is Frederik Andersen's turn to open some eyes. In just his third career start and 4th appearance, Andersen is now 4-0 after a neatly wrapped 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers. Andersen stopped 32 of 33, only letting in Michael Del Zotto's first of the year get by. Del Zotto has been a huge disappointment so far this season with only 3 points, but he has been showing some promise, especially with his end-to-end rush in last night's contest. Buy low candidate?.... The Ducks will have some decisions to make once Fasth returns from a lower body injury, but with games like last night, Andersen may be getting some more starts....RW Corey Perry scored his 9th goal on the season and now has 16 points ranking him 7th in league scoring. Perry has tremendous talent, but we expect his point-per-game pace will slow down....The bright spot for the Rangers, besides Henrik Lundqvist's continued fine play after a rough start, was LW Carl Hagelin. Unable to start the season on time because of injury, since his return, Hagelin has 4 points in 4 games, calming any doubts about his ability to play. In fact, his speed is such a tremendous asset; it was surely missed from the Ranger's lineup early on in the year. Hagelin assisted on MDZ's goal, so if you are need in forward depth, pick him up while he's hot.
More Fantasy Game Notes: Detroit Goaltender Jimmy Howard played lights out last night, too bad his team couldn't muster much against Jets' backup Al Montoya, losing 4-2 in Winnipeg. The win halted the Jets' 3-game losing streak and in the process put an end to Detroit's 3-game winning streak. Montoya is clearly the obvious choice to start some more games as starter Ondrej Pavelec play has been less than desirable. If you are in need of goaltending help, take a chance on Montoya, it may be only a matter of time before he gets the starting job....Detroit rookie D Danny DeKeyser scored his first NHL goal in the loss. He should be considered for dynasty keeper leagues and monitored for any progress this season.

Goalie Start: Looks like Frederik Andersen in net for the Ducks. dailyfaceoff.com Mon 11/4/13 2:56 PM
Andersen allowed three goals on 21 shots in a win over the Blue Jackets on October 27. The win moved him to 3-0 with a 1.50 GAA and .944 SV% as he continues to fill in for the injured Viktor Fasth. He will face the Rangers and their 27th ranked offence tonight. On a quiet night in the NHL he would be the best spot start option.

Andersen allowed one goal on 27 shots in his first career NHL start. The Ducks have rewarded that strong performance by starting him today vs. Columbus, which makes him a great spot start candidate.

Anderson stopped all 24 shots he faced in a relief effete on Sunday. Tonight he will make his first NHL start when the Ducks take on the Senators. It is a decent matchup, but it would be a risky spot start.
