Erik Karlsson has 27 assists in 33 games, putting him in a tie with Henrik Sedin for first in the NHL.
Karlsson was starting to show signs of cooling down ever so slightly when he registered three assists on Friday. He's dominating all offensive defensemen so far with 29 points in 33 games. However, his minus-four rating and his subpar numbers in other defensive categories might prevent him from being a serious contender for the Norris Trophy.

Erik Karlsson has a goal and three points in his last four games.
Karlsson has managed to maintain his lead amongst blueliners with 25 points in 29 contests. He also record 45 points in 75 games last season and should be one of the league's best offensive defenseman for many years to come.

Erik Karlsson, who is scheduled to become a restricted free agent this summer, will probably point to Victor Hedman's recently signed five-year/$20 million contract extension when the Senators approach him.
The two are very different kinds of blueliners, but they're both extremely valuable to their respective clubs and at roughly the same stage in their NHL careers. Karlsson is a pure offensive defenseman that only seems to be getting better. He set career-highs with 13 goals and 45 points in 75 games last season and he already has 22 points in 25 games this season. His plus/minus rating is an unappealing minus-three, but that's still leagues better than last season, when he was third worst in the NHL with a minus-30 rating.

Erik Karlsson's notched two helpers in the Ottawa Senators' 4-3 win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday.
Karlsson leads all NHL defensemen with 21 points and all players with 20 assists. While he isn't getting a lot of goals, Karlsson has taken 71 shots, so he's useful in more than just one category. Naturally, it would be nice if he could throw a few tallies in the mix with all those apples.

Erik Karlsson earned his 16th assist of the 2011-12 season, moving him into a three-way tie for the NHL lead with Daniel Sedin and Brian Campbell.
Karlsson only has one goal to go with his many helpers, but it's not for a lack of trying. He has a resounding 65 shots on goal so far this season and while many of those likely resulted in rebound tallies, expect him to find the twine more often if he gets some bounces.

Erik Karlsson leads the NHL with 12 assists going into Tuesday night's action.
The offensive rearguard has 13 points in 12 games this season. He has fired an astounding 36 shots at opposing goaltenders already, which ranks him second in the league among defensemen. Karlsson continues to struggle at times in his own end, but his offensive body of work makes him a great fantasy player to have on your roster and he is proving that again early into this year.

Erik Karlsson scored a goal and added an assist in the Senators' 7-2 loss to the Flyers Tuesday night.
Karlsson has been an offensive dynamo this year, but his weak supporting cast is punishing his plus/minus rating, as it did last season. Jason Spezza was the only other Senator to find the back of the net in what was a forgettable night all-around.

Erik Karlsson feels prepared to take on a leadership role with the rebuilding Ottawa Senators this season.
He especially wants to help the young Swedish players that the Senators have in their system get acclimated to North America like Daniel Alfredsson did for him when he arrived. "I remember how much (Alfredsson) meant for me when I came here," Karlsson said. "Even though I haven't been here as long as he had when I got here, I still think it's good for the guys to come in here and speak their own language sometimes, if there's anything they need to know." The Senators have a plethora of Swedish prospects in their pipeline with David Rundblad, Andre Petersson, Robin Lehner and Mika Zibanejad set for starring roles in the near future. Karlsson's growing maturity and offensive skills should help Ottawa this campaign, but his defensive game still needs to show improvement.
