Eric Tangradi skated on the third line with Olli Jokinen and Michael Frolik on Thursday. He took the spot of James Wright, who was bumped to the team's fourth line during the session. Tangradi picked up an assist in Winnipeg's opener Tuesday on Frolik's game-winning goal.

Eric Tangradi is excited to play in Saturday's preseason contest in Belleville Saturday night because he played in the OHL with the Bulls for three seasons. "The pre-game skate was an opportunity to take it all back in," he said before switching his focus back to trying to earn his roster spot. "But there's a lot of guys on this team that are trying to fight for a job and there's a couple spots up for grabs. When we leave the rink now there's a lot of guys who are really dialed in and focused on just playing a good game and, of course, we're here to try and win." Saturday's Kraft Hockeyville contest will see the Jets "host" the Washington Capitals.

Eric Tangradi has agreed to a two-year/$1.35 million contract with the Winnipeg Jets. Tangradi's deal is one-way, so he should make the Jets' opening game roster. He had a goal and four points in 41 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Winnipeg Jets last season. He'll earn $650k next season and $700k in 2014-15.

Eric Tangradi met a games-played condition following his trade to Winnipeg, so the Pittsburgh Penguins will get a sixth-round choice instead of a seventh-round pick. He skated in 36 games with the Jets after he was acquired from the Penguins. Tangradi recorded a goal and three assists over that span. "Hopefully this will give me more opportunity and I can build on this."

Eric Tangradi admits it's weird to make his Winnipeg Jets debut against his old team, the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tangradi was traded to Winnipeg on Wednesday. "It's kind of like seeing your ex-girlfriend at the bar the next night," Tangradi joked. "It's a little bit different feeling. But I've got a mindset: No friends tonight. I've got new teammates on my side. I'm just going to try to play my game and be physical." If anything, getting to play against his former teammates so soon after being traded should provide Tangradi with extra motivation.

Winnipeg brought in Eric Tangradi and dealt out Alexei Ponikarovsky in two separate moves Wednesday. "(Tangradi) is 24 years old and we're very hopeful that he's someone that, given an opportunity to play in our organization, is going to blossom," said GM Kevin Cheveldayoff. "It was really more about creating an opening and opportunity for Eric as opposed to anything with Alexei." Tangradi will probably slot into the club's third line, where he'll try to gain some traction at the NHL level following an unproductive stint in Pittsburgh.

In 45 career NHL appearances, Tangradi has notched just one goal and four assists. Perhaps a fresh start will do him some good, but for now he's not worth owning in fantasy hockey.

Eric Tangradi could be the odd man out in Pittsburgh after the Penguins claimed winger Zach Boychuk off waivers Thursday. Boychuk is expected to skate alongside Evgeni Malkin and James Neal, which is the spot that Tangradi had occupied. The winger didn't receive a glowing endorsement from GM Ray Shero, either. "We'll see how the game goes," Shero said before Thursday's game against the Rangers. If you took a flier on Tangradi at some point, it's time to move on.
