The Winter Classic is here and pits the Detroit Red Wings against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Michigan Stadium. Jimmy Howard gets the Call for the Wings and Jonathan Bernier for the Leafs. Howard struggled in his first game back from injury but hopes to rebound in this huge match. Over 100,000 people will be in attendance and millions more viewing what is fastly becoming a must-see event. This should be a doozy of a game....The other matchup is later on tonight as the Ben Bishop (LIKELY) and the Tampa Bay Lightning head to Vancouver to take on Eddie Lack (LIKELY) and the Canucks. Another great matchup to enjoy. Happy New Year to all!

Craig Anderson just might be turning it around after winning his past two starts, both against two of the Eastern Conference's top teams, Pittsburgh and Boston. Philipp Grubauer has played well since his call up but has lost 2 out of his last three. Ottawa is on the cusp of the eighth playoff spot so a win would do wonders while the Washington Capitals could distance themselves a little from the middle of the pack. Look for the Senators to win a tight one on home ice...The match of the night belongs to Los Angeles and eh Chicago Blackhawks. Martin Jones and Antti Raanta have played superbly in place of injured starters Jonathan Quick and Corey Crawford, with Jones getting all the press. Jones actually suffered his first loss against 8 wins last time out against Dallas, losing 5-2 which was such an aberration from the way he had been playing prior. Chicago continues to put up a boatload of points in games lately and they should be able to solve Jones. Raanta is a rave!...With Jonas Gustavsson sidelined with a groin injury, Jimmy Howard gets back into the crease following his injury in the nick of time. Hopefully, for Red Wings fans, he shed his inconsistent play that possessed Howard from the start of the season. Carter Hutton will get the nod as the Nashville Predators await the return of Pekka Rinne. Hutton has lost 4 straight while the Red Wings have won 3 of 4 and ghave their top two stars back in the lineup, Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Wings are hot!....Steve Mason (LIKELY) and the Philadelphia Flyers head to Vancouver to take on Eddie Lack (LIKELY) and the Canucks. Lack is coming off a 2-0 shutout of the Calgary Flames and has won 3 in a row since replacing injured Roberto Luongo. As good as the Flyers have been playing of late, the Canucks are not lacking with lack in net. Go Nucks!

DAILY PRIME - DECEMBER 30, 2013: FANTASY STARS- MILLER, NEAL, OKPOSO primepucks.com Mon 12/30/13 9:56 AM
Our first fantasy star of the night belongs to Buffalo's Ryan Miller, who withstood a barrage of Washington shots by stopping 49 of 50 in the 2-1 SO win. While his records stands at a mediocre 10-17-1, the American netminder has won 4 of his last 5 starts and his seen all his accompanying stats dramatically increase over the last month (2.69 GAA/.927 SP). In reality, Miller playing for a bad team hurts his fantasy value in the wins category, but he has been getting sharper as we get closer to the Sochi games. He is worth starting as your no. 2 fantasy goalie right now, but a trade to almost any other team will boost his fantasy stock... James Neal had a huge night for the short-handed Penguins, collecting a "hat trick" and adding two assists. He now has 30 points (14G/16A) in 21 games, but an incredible 27 points in his last 15 contests. Neal has taken his game to another level, considering most of his offensive production was tied into playing with Evgeni Malkin. Apparently, not anymore. If you own Neal, enjoy the ride.... With John Tavares returning back to the Islander's lineup, their top line dominated the game in the 5-4 win over Minnesota. Kyle Okposo led the way with 2 goals and one assist, raising his totals to 37 points in 40 games. After setting a career-high with 52 points in '09-10, his fantasy value has been stuck in neutral with overall inconsistency defining his game. Well, a successful playoff stint in '12-13 has changed all that, as he has finally found chemistry with John Tavares. The permanent move to the top line has done wonders for Okposo's point production, so look for him to easily get pass the 60-point mark and remain a solid fantasy option.

The return of Tyler Bozak to the Toronto Maple Leaf's lineup ignited the offense, as the team scored five goals in the win over Carolina. With 3 assists, the center has 14 points in 17 games and should be starting ASAP as he clicks big-time with Phil Kessel.Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 37 shots in the Ranger's 4-3 victory over the Lightning, but has the All-Star goalie turned his season around? He has allowed at least 3 goals for 8 straight starts, and with an atypical GAA of 2.78 and SP of .909, this minor goaltending contoversy brewing with upstart Cam Talbot is not done yet.Eddie Lack continues his strong relief of Vancouver's Roberto Luongo with a 18-save 2-0 shutout of Calgary. THE GOALIE EDGE: 12/29/13 primepucks.com Sun 12/29/13 10:34 AM
A huge slate of games on the last Sunday of the year, but I backing only four must-start goalie options:
After a 0-4 road trip, the Minnesota are thrilled to be back at home where they have won four straight games. They will be missing their best forward in Zach Parise, but they should benefit from the probable return of Josh Harding in goal. He has been the far better option in the crease, as he has put up Vezina worthy numbers: 18-5-1/1.59 GAA/ .939 SP. Look for his return to spark the Wild against a John Tavares-less Islanders teamNo Roberto Luongo? No problem, as back-up Eddie Lack has been excellent for the Vancouver Canucks, posting a 6-2 record with a 1.92 GAA and a .924 SP. Calgary has struggled mightily to muster any type of offense, plus they usually have their hands full with the Canucks, losing the last three head-to-head encounters. No lack of confidence here, as Lack wins big! After the 7-2 shallacking at the hands of the Chicago Blackhawks, the Avalanche should be primed for this home clash against Winnipeg. Semyon Varlamov is their probable starter and considering his 10-5 home record and a 2.24 GAA, start him with extreme confidence. Winnipeg will go with Al Montoya, as Ondrej Pavelec has been downright dreadful and basically unstartable in fantasy leagues right now.Our upset special is a motivated Cam Ward playing for his job in the Hurricane's road tilt against a Toronto team that has been firing blanks on offense and have been playing down to their opposition at the Air Canada Center. Take Ward in this spot.FANTASY MUST-START
Josh Harding *, Minnesota vs. NYI
Semyon Varlamov, Colorado vs. Winnipeg
Eddie Lack, Vancouver @ Calgary
SLEEPER ALERT
Cam Ward *, Carolina @ Toronto

Goalie Start: Lack starts on Saturday vs. Calgary. dailyfaceoff.com Fri 12/27/13 7:56 PM
With Roberto Luongo on the shelf with a lower-body injury, Lack takes over as the temporary Canucks' starter. Lack stopped 15 of 16 shots altering replacing Luongo in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Jets. On Saturday he will face the Flames for the first time since he allowed four goals on 36 shots in a 5-4 OT win in his NHL debut (Oct. 6).
DAILY PRIME - DECEMBER 23, 2013: A FEW KEY INJURIES- LUONGO AND STEEN primepucks.com Mon 12/23/13 9:58 AM
Not much to talk about fantasy performance-wise from last night's two games, but the Roberto Luongo injury stands tall as the biggest news. Vancouver's starting goalie left the game early due to a goal-mouth collision with Winnipeg's Blake Wheeler. With only one game scheduled for Vancouver during the upcoming week, Luongo owners could easily survive a short-term injury situation, but they need to pick up Eddie Lack as a mandatory handcuff. Lack stopped 15 shots in relief of Luongo, delivering a 2-1 win over the Jets. His fantasy values skyrockets if Luongo is out for awhile.
Steen Out on Monday: There is speculation in St. Louis that Alexander Steen, one of the NHL's biggest surprises with 38 points in 35 games, might be dealing with a concussion. There has been no confirmation regarding the injury, but he will not be playing Monday night. This would be a huge blow to Steen owners.
