THE GOALIE EDGE: 3/29/2014 primepucks.com Sat 3/29/14 8:43 AM
There are 11 games on the NHL calendar today. Boston will start things off with a game at Washington. Tukkaa Rask is (LIKELY) in goal for Boston, and there little to say about him other thna the fact he will likey win the Vezina Trophy with his 33 wins and 2.01 GAA. Rask's even strength save percentage of .943 is amazing. Jaroslav Halak is (LIKELY) to be in goal for the Capitals, and he has played well since the trade with a .929 save percentage with Washington, but we like Boston in this one. San Jose will visit Colorado. Antti Niemi is (LIKELY) for the Sharks while Semyon Varlamov has been (CONFIRMED) for the Avalanche. Both are having great years with each having 36 wins. Varlamov has been hotter lately winning 3 of his last 4 whereas Niemi has gone 2-3 in his last 5. Go with Varlamov. Ben Bishop will (LIKELY) be in goal for Tampa as they visit Buffalo. Youngster Matt Hackett is (LIKELY) to be in goal for the Sabres. Bishop has had a great year with 35 wins while Hackett has only played in 3 games. Bishop should be the king. Cory Schneider has been (CONFIRMED) for the Devils at the Islanders. Although his record is only 14-14-9, his 2.14 GAA demonstrates that he has played well this season. Evgeni Nabokov is (LIKELY) for New York. He hasgone 2-4 in his last 6 games, so we like Schneider.
Carey Price will (LIKELY) start for Montreal at Florida. Price has had a solid year with 31 wins and a .924 save percentage. Dan Ellis has been (CONFIRMED) to be in goal for the Panthers. He has really struggled in his limited playing time with a 5-8 record and worse a 3.39 GAA and a .890 SP. The Price is right. The Red Wings will visit Toronto, and Jimmy Howard has been (CONFIRMED) in goal for Detroit. He has had a tough year at 17-18-11 and he has suffered 3 straight losses. Jonathan Bernier is (LIKELY) to be in goal for the Leafs, and while he has played well this year with 25 wins, he has lost 2 straight games since coming back from an injury. But we like him and his .924 save percentage. Sergei Bobrovsky is (LIKELY) in goal for Columbus as they visit Carolina. Bobrovsky has played well with 27 wins and a 2.47 GAA, although he has lost 3 of his last 5 games. He will (LIKELY) face Anton Khudobin who has a 16-12-0 record, but a solid 2.20 GAA and a .929 SP. He shutout Florida in his last game. Still go with Bobrovsky. Dallas will face the Blues in St. Louis and Kari Lehtonen is (LIKELY) in goal for the Stars. With 28 wins and a 2.48 GAA he has had a...
Goalie Start: Lack will start again for the Canucks. dailyfaceoff.com Thu 3/27/14 7:56 PM
Lack stopped 29 of 31 shots in a 5-2 victory over the Wild last night. The Canucks continue to lean heavily on Lack, as he has started every game since the Olympic break. He has won his last three outings with only four goals allowed on 80 shots (.950 SV%). He draws a tough matchup tonight in Colorado.
DAILY PRIME - MARCH 27, 2014: NET RETURNS primepucks.com Thu 3/27/14 8:14 AM
A must-win last night for the Vancouver Canucks and G Eddie Lack (29 SV) came up with some big saves to raise his record to 15-14-4; a great road win for the rookie net minder. Lack has started 14 straight games and should get all the starts the rest of the way. The coaching staff is taking a good look to see if Lack can handle the stress of being the number 1, so if you are in need of goaltending, Lack is a good bet as the Canucks battle to get into playoff position.....Daniel Sedin has "officially" returned by scoring his first goal in 2014, his last goal coming on December 30th against Philadelphia. That's 23 games before hitting the twine. He surely misses his twin brother who has been idled by a leg injury. I can surely understand that having twin boys myself. Expect Henrik back by next week and Daniel's production to go up in the Canuck's playoff push.
The battle for second place in the Metropolitan Division was all Henrik Lundqvist and the Rangers' defense as they stymied the Philadelphia Flyers 3-1 at the Garden last night. The" King" was going for his third shutout this month but Jakub Voracek put the end to that with a blazing shot with less than 2 minutes remaining. The "King of Broadway" pushed aside 30 shots on goal for his 30th win on the season. That's 30+ victories in each of his 9 year NHL career except for the lockout season where he had 24 but would have eclipsed 30 wins if there was a full season, so I counted it. Henrik is supreme!....Even though Claude Giroux had an assist on the Flyers' goal, he was mainly invisible during the game thanks to Rangers' D-men Ryan McDonagh and Dan Girardi, who held the superstar without a shot on goal. Don't expect that to happen too much, Giroux is a stud.... Speaking of McDonagh, the young defenseman extended his scoring streak to 5 games with at least a point with his 14th goal and gave him 13 points in 14 March games. The Canadiens are surely kicking themselves for trading him for Scott Gomez. Ewww!
You just know it won't be a cakewalk playing against Calgary despite their ranking near the bottom of the Western Conference. Winners of 8 of their past 13, the Flames, behind Karri Ramo's third straight start, hosted the Anaheim Ducks and took a 2-1 lead into the 3rd period. With the Western Conference title within reach, the Ducks picked up their game and pulled out a 3-2 win. Ramo turned aside 31 of 33 SOG and if you are in need of a sleeper goaltender for next season, put Ramo at the top...

Lack stopped 16 of 18 shots in a 4-2 win over the Sabres on Sunday. He will be back in goal tonight having won each of his last two starts with a 1.00 GAA and .958 SV%. Lack comes in at 7-11-1 with a 2.53 GAA and .909 SV% on the road this season.

ALL GOALIES ARE CONFIRMED UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED AT THE TIME OF PRINT
The night starts out with a critical matchup between the Vancouver Canucks and the Minnesota Wild. A win for the Canucks gets them within reach of the eighth and final playoff spot while a Wild win pretty much clinches a berth. Canucks' G Eddie Lack will look to up his streak to 3 with a win tonight while Darcy Kuemper will be back in net despite losing his last 3 starts. Kuemper does have good metrics during his losing streak, so it's was just some tough luck losses. "Breeze" has won 2 of his last three so it's surprising he didn't get the call....Calgary Flames G Karri Ramo goes for his third straight win tonight as he faces Jonas Hiller (LIKELY) and the Anaheim Ducks. Ramo is coming off two impressive wins over the Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks as the Flames are stoking higher as they have gone 8-5-0 in March. Meanwhile, the Ducks are just 4-6-0 in March. Ramo must mean "red hot" in Finnish....Does anyone remember the dire straits that eh Philadelphia Flyers were in by the middle of October? Well tonight they will be battling the New York Rangers for second place in the Metropolitan Division and possibly 5th place in the Eastern Conference. Steve Mason and Henrik Lundqvist have been on fire lately, so expect some old time hockey tonight at the Garden.
FANTASY MUST-STARTS
None.
SLEEPER ALERT

Seven games scheduled in the NHL today. Columbus and the Islanders will start things off with a 1:00 pm game. Sergei Bobrovsky is (CONFIRMED) for the Blue jackets. He has had a good season with 27 wins a 2.47 GA and a .919 SP, but he is only 2-2 in his last 4 games. Evgeni Nabokov has been (CONFIRMED) for New York. Nabokov has had a tough year with a GA of 2.96 and a SP under .900. Have to like Bobrovsky in this one. Brian Elliott is (Confirmed) in goal for St Louis against Pittsburgh. Elliott willl be filling in for Jaroslav Halak who has an injury. He has played really well when he has had the opportunity with a 16-5-2 record and a 2.06 GA. Marc-Andre Fleury (CONFIRMED) will start for the Penguins, and he has had a great year with 34 wins. Have to go with him, although this should be a tough match. Nashville travels to Chicago and a very struggling Pekka Rinne is (LIKELY) in goal for the Predators. In his last 3 games he had 2 losses and was pulled after allowing 4 goals. Cory Crawford is (LIKELY) for the Blackhawks and he has won 4 of his last 5 games. Toronto will go against the Devils, and this is not exactly a heavyweight match as James Reimer will (LIKELY) be in goal for the Leafs, while Cory Schneider has been (CONFIRMED) for New Jersey despite how well Martin Brodeur has been playing lately. Reimer has had atough time this season with a GA of 3.32, and he has lost 4 straight games. Schneider's 2.154 GA is much better, so we would favor him in this game. Ilya Bryzgalov is (LIKELY) in goal in for Minnesota at Detroit. This will be his 4th start since his trade from Edmonton. Jimmy Howard has been (CONFIRMED) for the Red Wings. Howard has won 4 of his last 5 games (CONFIRMED) so go with him. Nathan Lieuwen (CONFIRMED) will start his second NHL game for Buffalo at Vancouver. Eddie Lack has been (CONFIRMED) for the Canucks. He has a losing record on the season, and is 2-2 in his last 4 games, but his GA of 2.34 is pretty good. Please go with Lack in this one. Finally, Florida will visit Anaheim. Dan Ellis has been (CONFIRMED) for the Panthers, and boy has he struggled this year with a 3.24 GA and a .894 SP. Jonas Hiller is (LIKELY) for the Ducks, and while he has had a great season with 27 wins, he has lost 4 of his last 5 games. But you have to go with Hiller.
FANTASY MUST STARTS:
Jonas Hiller, Florida @ Anaheim
Corey Crawford, Nashville @ Chicago
Eddie Lack, ...
Goalie Start: Lack will start on Sunday. dailyfaceoff.com Sat 3/22/14 7:56 PM
Lack stopped all 30 shots that he faced in a 2-0 win over the Predators on Wednesday. Lack continues to alternate wins and losses, but with the Sabres in town tomorrow, that should change. Sunday will be Lack's 13th consecutive start, he is 5-6-1 with a 2.54 GAA and .904 SV% in his last 12.
ROMIE HITS THE POST: WHAT ABOUT EDDIE LACK? primepucks.com Thu 3/20/14 6:27 PM
With Roberto Luongo's departure to Florida, Eddie Lack is now the starting goaltender in Vancouver. He had a shutout last night over Nashville 2-0 with 30 saves. Lack has a losing record at 13-14-4 with a 2.34 GAA and an average .915 SP. He is 3-2 in his last 5 games allowing 11 goals. But he will likely be the man for the Canucks in goal for the rest of the year. This is Lack's first year as a starter in the NHL, so it is difficult to ascertain his capabilities this soon, as he does not have much of a track record in the NHL. The 26 year old tends to get hurt a lot, and watching him play he seems to be pretty average as he goes up and down in performance. He may be a good 2nd goaltender choice, but not much better than that. He needs to prove himself some more. But if you need help at that position, he my help you.
