Wells was assigned to AHL Bakersfield on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
The Oilers added Alex Stalock (not injury related) to their active roster in a corresponding move, so they're no longer in need of Wells' services as an emergency option in goal. The 23-year-old backstop will head to the minors for the foreseeable future.

Wells was sent down to the taxi squad Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Wells was an emergency recall with Mikko Koskinen (not injury related) missing Thursday's game against Montreal. The 23-year-old netminder likely won't see any NHL action in 2020-21 -- he's yet to make his debut. He recorded a 3.77 GAA and .878 save percentage in seven AHL games last season.

The Oilers recalled Wells to the active roster on an emergency basis Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
It appears the team may be sitting Mikko Koskinen as a precaution for Thursday's game, which would leave Wells to assume No. 2 duties behind starter Mike Smith. Wells made seven appearances in the AHL last season, recording a 3.77 GAA an d .878 save percentage over that span.

The Oilers recalled Wells from AHL Bakersfield and assigned him to their taxi squad Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Troy Grosenick is still unavailable due to the NHL's COVID-19 protocols, so Wells will be on hand as an emergency option in net. The 23-year-old has posted a 3.77 GAA and a .878 save percentage in seven AHL appearances last season.

Wells stopped all 18 shots he faced in Saturday's 1-0 overtime loss to the Flames' prospects.
EDGE Analysis
Wells played half of the game and did his part to make it a battle between himself and Flames netminder Artyom Zagidulin. Wells went 6-6-0 with one shutout, a 2.84 GAA and a .909 save percentage in 12 games played with AHL Bakersfield last year. He remains, at best, fourth on the goalie depth chart for the Oilers, who will probably begin the year with Mikko Koskinen and Mike Smith tending twine for the parent club.

Wells will join the professional ranks this upcoming season.
EDGE Analysis
Following four years spent in juniors with OHL Peterborough, Wells will link up with with AHL Bakersfield or ECHL Wichita for the upcoming campaign. At best, the Ontario native slots in as the fourth goalie in the Oilers' organizational depth chart -- although that's a spot he may need to steal away from Shane Starrett, who logged the bulk of the minutes with the Thunder last season. With Al Montoya and Mikko Koskinen expected to compete for the backup job behind Cam Talbot, the 20-year-old Wells is unlikely to see any action for Edmonton for at least another season or beyond.

Wells signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Oilers on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
The 19-year-old had a solid season with OHL Peterborough, notching a .916 save percentage, ranking him fifth in the league for goalies with more than ten games played. He won't likely hit the NHL next season, but he is a young player that has plenty of time to develop into a solid goaltender.
