Derek MacKenzie and David Savard were healthy scratches for Columbus Monday.
MacKenzie signed a two-year/one-way contract in the off-season, for the first time in his career. He is a bottom six player who had 14 points and 40 penalty minutes in 66 games last season before a hit by Chris Summers forced him to sit out the last 14 games. He has no fantasy value.

Derek MacKenzie's newly inked two-year/$2 million contract is the first one-way deal of his career.
Players inked to one-way contracts have a much better chance of staying in the NHL because they get paid the same amount even if they get sent to the minors. MacKenzie will turn 31 in June, but he had only participated in 64 going into the 2010-11 campaign. He's finally managed to establish himself as a regular at the NHL level, although he doesn't have any fantasy value in standard leagues.

Derek MacKenzie and the Columbus Blue Jackets have agreed to terms on a two-year deal worth $2 million.
He has passed his physical after finishing the 2011-12 campaign on the sidelines with a concussion, so the contract is projected to become official shortly. MacKenzie centers the Jackets' fourth line and he plays the penalty kill, but he doesn't offer much in the way of fantasy value. He recorded seven goals, seven assists, 189 hits and a plus-4 rating in 66 games this past season.

Derek MacKenzie (concussion) is working out again and should be ready for the start of the 2012-13 season.
MacKenzie missed the last 16 games of the season after being hit by Chris Summers of the Coyotes on March 3. He passed his baseline test but it was decided that he would remain on the sidelines for the remainder of the season. "I felt pressure to keep playing, given my contract situation and the fact that I hadn't missed a game to that point," MacKenzie said. "At first, I didn't even want to say the word concussion. But, in talking to people and the team docs, we decided to play it safe. It's not a groin. It's your head. If you have a symptom, you're out." MacKenzie is an unrestricted free agent on July 1 but look for the Blue Jackets to re-sign him before that. He has little to no fantasy value.

It will be a game-time decision as to whether Derek MacKenzie plays against the Oilers Sunday afternoon.
He has been practising with his teammates and seems to be almost fully recovered from a concussion. Consider MacKenzie questionable for Sunday's contest.

Derek MacKenzie will be sidelined indefinitely with concussion-like symptoms.
"He had been kind of in and out with just the way he was feeling," coach Todd Richards said. "He said he was fine but we had a doctor look at him yesterday. Last night, he wasn't feeling great (when) he was sitting at home watching TV. He came in this morning and said he wasn't feeling right so we're going to keep him out of the lineup." MacKenzie had played in all 66 of Columbus' games this season, while contributing 14 points and 189 hits.

Teams have reportedly been inquiring about the availability of Derek MacKenzie.
That doesn't mean that MacKenzie is on the block, but we wouldn't be surprised if he is. The Blue Jackets have already traded away Jeff Carter and Antoine Vermette and we doubt they're done. MacKenzie is a physical bottom-six forward who is able to stay out of the sin bin for the most part.
