DAILY PRIME- JULY 13, 2013: LEAFS FANTASY TALK; WILD DEEP SLEEPER- ... primepucks.com Sat 7/13/13 6:50 AM
LEAFS FANTASY TALK: The fun about fantasy blogging is that you can select a team with many questions and just fire away. Since I just got off the phone with my cousin from Toronto, I feel like talking Maple Leafs. Here is the question of the day: Was adding more offensive weapons good for the team, but bad for fantasy owners? In this case, probably not, since most of the Leaf's offense will run through their projected top line of Phil Kessel, Tyler Bozak, and Joffrey Lupul. With the emergence of Nazem Kadri and the acquisition of free agent David Clarkson, the Leafs can roll out two balanced scoring lines, which in theory can dilute the offense such as in St. Louis. But, make no mistake about it- Head coach Randy Carlyle will ride his top guns, so if I would venture a guess on who to target in the late rounds as a solid sleeper, I would say Bozak. After securing a long-term extension, his chemistry with Kessel will be taken to new heights after the team has shown confidence in him.
BLUM TO THE WILD: After not receiving a qualifying offer by the Nashville Predators, defenseman Jonathan Blum signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Minnesota Wild. Watch this kid. The 24-year old has plenty of untapped offense in his arsenal, but had a tough time rising up a crowded defensive depth chart with Nashville, which became that much better with the drafting of future star Seth Jones. He now enters a situation in Minnesota, where he will get a legit opportunity to earn a spot on the team in training camp. Ex-Predator defensemen with offensive upside have flourished on their new teams before. Just ask Cody Franson in Toronto..

After scoring 30 goals in 2011-12, David Clarkson only potted 15 in 48 games this season. The 6-foot-1-inch, 200 pound forward brings a physical style of play and solid net-front presence. His size along with the addition of Dave Bolland will open up the ice for the smaller Maple Leafs like Phil Kessel and Nazem Kadri.
DAILY PRIME - JULY 5, 2013: SIGNINGS; IGINLA SIGNS WITH BOSTON; RYD... primepucks.com Fri 7/5/13 5:05 AM
IGINLA SIGNS WITH BOSTON AFTER ALL After spurning the Bruins last year and signing with Pittsburgh, Jarome Iginla has decided to change that decision and just signed a one year $6 million contract with Boston. Iginla is 36 years old, and had 33 points in 48 games last year. He did have 12 points in 15 playoff games, so he is still probably a 70 points scorer. it will all depend on how Boston Coach Claude Julien uses him on the power play. If he gets some serious power play time, he is still a decent 5th or 6th forward. But don't expect too much from him at his age, and with the Bruins' balanced offense.
RIGHT WING MICHAEL RYDER SIGNS WITH THE DEVILS Michael Ryder just signed a two year contract with New Jersey for $7 million. The 33 year old is a solid 5th or 6th fantasy forward option. He had 35 points last year between Dallas and Montreal in 46 games. In 2011-2012 for Dallas he had 35 goals and 62 points. Expect him to do well with the Devils, and score around 60 points.
ANAHEIM RIGHT WING BOBBY RYAN TRADED TO OTTAWA Anaheim right wing Bobby Ryan was just traded to the Ottawa Senators for forward Jakob Silfverberg, prospect right wing Stefan Noesen and a 2014 first round pick. Ryan is a 4 time 30 goal scorer, and he was coveted by many teams. Obviously with the loss of Daniel Alfredsson to Detroit, the Senators wanted to replace him. Ryan should get great power play time with Jason Spezza and Erik Karlsson, so this is a big upgrade for him fantasy wise. Look for him to score 70 points this season.
FORMER RED WING CENTER VALTTERI FILPPULA SIGNS WITH TAMPA BAY Valttieri Filppula just signed a 5 year $25 million contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning. This is a huge gamble by Lightning General Manager Steve Yzerman as Filppula was a big bust last year with only 17 points in 41 games. While he did have a good season in 2011-2012 with 66 points, there is no guarantee the 29 year old will ever do that again. If he ends up playing with Stamkos or St. Louis he could have some value. Wait to see what happens in training camp.
STEPHEN WEISS JOINS THE RED WINGS: Stephen Weiss is heading north to Detroit, and hopefully in the standings, as he signs a 5-year deal with the Red Wings. Weiss joins Alfredsson in hopes of getting to the Stanley Cup.
STALBERG HEADS TO NASHVILLE: Viktor Stalberg signed a 4-year deal with the Predators who can use all the offense they can get. He should be an important part of their offense now that Kostitsyn is gone. The only...
