Prout (upper body) was spotted skating at the end of Tuesday's practice, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

The defenseman has been sidelined for the last five games after sustaining an upper-body injury in the Oct. 2 season opener versus Vegas. Jacob Middleton took Prout's spot in the lineup in the Sharks' next game Oct. 4, only to suffer an upper-body injury of his own that will likely sideline him through at least mid-November. Prout will likely need to put in a full practice with the rest of San Jose's healthy skaters before his return to action can be viewed as immiinent.

The Sharks have yet to release any details regarding the severity of Prout's upper-body issue, but he'll be sidelined for the team's next four games at a minimum. Jacob Middleton will round out San Jose's depth on the back end until Prout is cleared to play.

The blueliner hadn't found twine in over three years, since scoring three goals with the Blue Jackets in 2015-16, but you'd never know it by his slick mitts in front of Sharks goalie Aaron Dell. Prout did finish minus-2 in the contest. The goal was just his second point in 17 outings this season, so don't expect a binge of offense to come suddenly for the 29-year-old.

Prout has been a healthy scratch in seven straight contests.

EDGE Analysis

The veteran defenseman has just one assist, along with 31 hits and 14 blocked shots, in 15 appearances this season. Coach Bill Peters has favored Oscar Fantenberg and Rasmus Andersson as the third pairing, and even if a spot opened up, Prout would be competing with fellow press-box dwellers Oliver Kylington and Michael Stone for the position.

Prout tossed six hits and blocked a shot in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Golden Knights.

EDGE Analysis

After finding himself in the press box for three games, Prout made a physical impact on Wednesday's contest. He now has 31 hits and 14 blocked shots in 15 appearances this season, but with a crowded blue line in Calgary, Prout isn't likely to get many opportunities to suit up.

EDGE Analysis

The defensive defenseman has appeared in only four of the Flames' 10 games in February, often serving as a healthy scratch instead. However, with Oliver Kylington listed out for Friday's match, Prout made the most of his opportunity while skating alongside T.J. Brodie on the third pairing. Kylington is expected back Sunday, which likely means Prout will return to the press box.

Prout logged 8:12 of ice time against the Avs on Wednesday, his first game in the lineup since Dec. 18.

EDGE Analysis

Considering he barely got onto the ice, it shouldn't come as a surprise Prout managed a mere one shot and plus-1 rating. If he can't secure more minutes, the Ontario native could be headed back to AHL Stockton for another conditioning assignment.
