DAILY PRIME - JANUARY 12, 2014: VORACEK STAYS HOT & MARKOV GETS 2 A... primepucks.com Sun 1/12/14 8:24 AM
Ten games in the NHL yesterday. Tampa Bay and the Flyers kicked things off as the Lightning beat Philadelphia 6-3. Valtteri Filppula had a goal and an assist for Tampa. He now has 18 goals and 36 points on the season. His name is hard to spell, and he is a waiver wire type player. Flyer goaltender Steve Mason had a night to forget as he allowed 5 goals on only 17 shots. Sometimes you have games like that. He is still having a good year with 18 wins. Jakub Voracek had 2 goals for the Flyers, and while he has only 32 points on the season, he has been hot lately with 5 points in his last 4 games...Montreal beat Chicago 2-1 in OT as veteran defenseman Andre Markov scored both goals for the Canadians. Markov has been overshadowed by fellow defenseman P K Subban, but he can still bring it with 24 points on the season... New Jersey beat Florida in OT as well as defenseman Marek Zidlicky scored the game winner. Like Markov, Zidlicky is an old veteran who can still rack up points. He has 24 on the year. Devils forward Michael Ryder scored the other goal. He has scored a goal in 4 straight games, and he has 7 points in his last 7 games. He once scored 62 points for Dallas. Grab him while he's hot....Ottawa beat Nashville 2-1 in a shootout, as Senators goalie Craig Anderson was outstanding with 32 saves. After a brutal start to the season, Anderson has been steadily improving, and he now has 15 wins on the year. Ottawa's Kyle Turris scored a goal, and with 34 points on the season he is worth a look as a 6th forward option. At 24 years old he can still get better...Columbus pounded Winnipeg 6-3. Bryan Little had a goal and an assist for the Blue Jackets. Little is a lot like Turris, just on the edge of being fantasy worthy... Colorado beat the Wild 4-2 as young forward Ryan O'Reilly had 2 goals for the Avalanche. We like O'Reilly, but with only 30 points on the season we can't recommend him yet. He is only 22 years old. He has 70 point potential in a year or two. Paul Stastny left the game with an injury...Anaheim continued its winning ways with a 5-3 win over Phoenix. Ryan Getzlaf left the game with a LBI. Mathieu Perreault had 3 assists for the Ducks, and while he has only 25 points on the season, he has been hot lately with 6 points in his last 3 games. Radim Vrbata had 3 assists for Phoenix. Vrbata is another one of those marginal 6th forwards...In a tight close checking game Pittsburgh beat Calgary 2-1 as Penguin forward Chris Kunitz ...

DAILY PRIME - DECEMBER 31, 2013: BACK-UPS TO THE FUTURE & SOME OLD ... primepucks.com Tue 12/31/13 8:20 AM
***NEW FEATURE*** We have added our 3 FANTASY STARS OF THE NIGHT to our Home Page. Just look in the right margin under PRIME UPDATE. We hope you enjoy!
In a battle of the Titans, Chicago Blackhawks' Goalie Antti Raanta was able to stonewall the Los Angeles Kings 1-0. Martin Jones was nearly as perfect as he stopped 29 of 30 saves as Jones rebounded from his poor start last game out...Jones will, in all likelihood, be sent back to the AHL as Jonathan Quick is nearing a return and may even get into tonight's game versus Dallas, but more likely to play Thursday against St. Louis. Corey Crawford is also close to returning and resuming his No. 1 starter's role but Raanta's play of late should earn him more starts down the road....After what was a disastrous first part of the season, Ottawa Senators' G Craig Anderson seems to be turning his game around and not a moment too soon. Anderson has now won 3 in a row and if the Ottawa Senators want to make the playoffs and some noise, they will need Anderson to play at the highest level that he is capable of. You may still be able to acquire the Ottawa goaltender on the cheap...It is quite obvious that the goaltending was pretty much non-existent in the Detroit-Nashville game as the Preds defeated the Red Wings 6-4. Jimmy Howard returned from injury and only made 23 of 28 saves and his season's woes continue. Marek Mazanec wasn't much better stopping only 21 of 25 SOG. We'll give Howard a few games to get back into game shape to decide where his season is going, while the Predators await the return of elite goaltender Pekka Rinne from his hip infection....Philly G Steve Mason was the reason that the Flyers were able to squeak out a win in Vancouver last night stopping 41 of 44 SOG. Mason continues his rebound season and has played well ever since his arrival to Philadelphia at last year's trade deadline.
More Fantasy Game Notes: If you haven't already, you might want to rush out and pick up Michael Raffl of the Philadelphia Flyers. All the rookie has done since his call up is go 2-9-11 points in 27 games but his recent play has improved as he is playing alongside red-hot Claude Giroux. Raffl has 10 points in the past 13 games and if he sticks should be able to gather some points but you may run into a little inconsistency from the rookie. He had 2 assists in last night's game against the Canucks but went scoreless in three prior games...
