McDavid will reportedly sign an eight-year deal with Edmonton worth an annual average value of $13.5 million, per Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada.
EDGE Analysis
Once signed, this deal would make McDavid the highest paid player in the NHL. By comparison, Chicago's Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews both come with a $10.5 million cap hit. The Oilers will be tying up a significant amount of thier cap space in McDavid as well as linemate Leon Drasiatl who is also expected to receive a heafty pay increase. Considering the 20-year-old McDavid walked away with the Hart Memorial and Art Ross trophies after putting up 30 goals and 70 helpers this past season, few would argue he's not worth every penny Edmonton is going to give him.

McDavid was named winner of the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league MVP as voted by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
The young Oilers captain captured multiple awards Wednesday, including the Art Ross as the league's leading scorer and the Ted Lindsay Award. In what promises to be an illustrious career, like Sidney Crosby, McDavid captured all three trophies in just his second year in the NHL. McDavid's terrifying mix of speed and skill makes him a devastating offensive player, and no one else in the league seems to be able to keep pace with him. He is the third consecutive first-time winner of the award, following Carey Price in 2015 and Patrick Kane in 2016.

McDavid was the league's scoring leader with 100 points, the only player to reach the century mark for the 2016-17 season.
EDGE Analysis
Well, that didn't take long. After being limited to just 45 games in his rookie season due to a broken collarbone, McDavid played in all 82 games and scored 100 points to claim his first league scoring title, edging Sidney Crosby and Patrick Kane by 11 points. As a testament to McDavid's dominance, just 27 of his points came on the power play, the lowest percentage among the league's top five scorers. McDavid is the third-youngest Art Ross winner in NHL history after Wayne Gretzky and Crosby, and he's just starting an NHL career that promises to equally illustrious. McDavid's all-round game isn't as polished as Crosby, but he's arguably the most dangerous offensive player in the league and ranked fourth among forwards in average ice time. He is an elite No. 1 fantasy option in all formats.

Along with winning the Art Ross Trophy, McDavid was named the league's best player as voted by the NHLPA.
EDGE Analysis
Of all the awards McDavid has won, the Lindsay Award is perhaps the most significant because it's voted on by his peers. Nobody else in the league can mix high speeds and elite playmaking ability like McDavid, who is a shining example of the NHL's emphasis on quickness and skill. Like Sidney Crosby, McDavid managed to win the Lindsay in just his second year in the league, and will win plenty of other trophies down the road. McDavid is the first Oiler to win the Lindsay since Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier won it during the Oilers' "City of Champions" era.

McDavid scored a power-play goal and recorded an assist during Friday's Game 5 double-overtime loss to Anaheim.
EDGE Analysis
McDavid is always dangerous, but he looked dominant for most of Game 5. While it was a tough-luck loss, it was encouraging to see the Oilers captain confidently tap linemate Leon Draisaitl after the overtime loss and say, "let's go." McDavid has now scored a goal in three consecutive games and has five tallies and nine points through 11 playoff games. It wouldn't be surprising to see McDavid have his best game of the postseason Sunday in Game 6.

McDavid netted his fourth goal of these playoffs Wednesday, firing a wrister past John Gibson in the Game 4 home loss to the Ducks.
EDGE Analysis
The lamp-lighter from McDavid helped the Oilers jump out to a 2-0 lead that would quickly be squandered in the second frame. With the series knotted at 2-2, the onus will be on McDavid to furiously attack the net -- he's only averaging 2.7 shots per game after clearing the 3.0 mark during the regular season.

McDavid showed off his ridiculous skill with a highlight-reel goal in Sunday's Game 3 loss to the Ducks.
EDGE Analysis
McDavid turned on a dime to burn Sami Vatanen and snipe a perfect shot past John Gibson, but unfortunately it wasn't enough in a 6-3 loss. The youngster has come alive in these last two games and is finally showing fans what they've been waiting to see. McDavid is a generational talent and the Oilers are in good hands if he continues to play like he did Sunday. With the Oilers leading a tight series 2-1, McDavid will likely need to display some more magic if his team hopes to pull away.

McDavid tallied an assist and two shots in Game 1 against the Ducks on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Despite tallying just one point, McDavid was on the ice for four of Edmonton's five goals in the win. He's making a difference. If he continues to play like he did in Game 1, he's going to start producing more points.

McDavid potted an empty-net goal in Saturday's Game 6 victory over the Sharks.
EDGE Analysis
It was a great effort from McDavid, who did some fine work from his knees to help seal the fate of the Sharks. The youngster didn't have an electric first round by his standards, but his four points in six games shouldn't have people complaining. McDavid was a 100-point player in the regular season and you can't help but think he has another level to hit in the postseason. Look for the 20-year-old to be at his best against the Ducks in Round 2.

McDavid potted his first career playoff goal Friday -- a shorthanded tally no less -- helping the Oilers to a 2-0 win over the Sharks in Game 2.
EDGE Analysis
McDavid's only been in the NHL for two seasons and already his hockey resume is a two-pager. He reached exactly 100 points (30 goals, 70 assists) this campaign, leading the league and bouncing back incredibly strong following his broken clavicle injury sustained as a rookie. McDavid's shorthanded goal Friday didn't look flashy from a tv viewer's perspective, but his release from the slot was still deceptive and ended up fooling Martin Jones anyway. The series will now turn to San Jose for Game 3 on Sunday.
