Considering the Oilers don't play until Saturday's clash with Ottawa, McDavid should have plenty of chances to get his legs back under him. Prior to his absence, the generational talent was on track to top his career-high 116 points set back in 2018-19 and should hit the 40-goal mark as well considering he has 19 tallies in 33 games to start the year.

McDavid has been officially designated for the league's COVID-19 protocols and will be unavailable against Toronto on Wednesday, Sportsnet's Chris Johnston reports.

McDavid was awaiting the results of additional testing, but it appears his positive was confirmed. With McDavid out of action, Leon Draistail will slot into the first-line center role and figures to serve as the focal point of the Oilers' offense. Even with his absence, McDavid is on pace to cruise to another 100-plus-point campaign this season.
