Tanev (lower body) has been given the green light to resume playing, according to general manager Jim Benning.

Tanev was involved in his first NHL fight during Thursday's loss to Ottawa.

Tanev picked up an assist, three blocked shots, two hits and a plus-2 rating in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Sharks.

Tanev contributed in a number of ways in Wednesday's win. The defenseman is up to 17 points, 115 blocks and a plus-6 rating in 51 appearances this season. The 30-year-old is one pace to easily beat his career-high 20 points from 2014-15, achieved in 70 contests that year.

Tanev delivered two assists in Monday's 3-1 win over the Blues.

Tanev set up J.T. Miller in the second period and added the secondary helper on Bo Horvat's last-second empty-net goal in the third. The two-helper outing double Tanev's January production to four assists in 10 games. He's at 16 points, 112 blocked shots and a plus-4 rating through 50 games, which puts him on pace for the most productive season of his career.

Tanev registered an assist in Sunday's win against the Wild.

He picked up the helper on Bo Horvat's empty net goal. Tanev has points in back-to-back appearances, bringing him up to 14 points on the campaign. That sees him eclipse last year's total of 12 points, and it's the highest total he's produced since the 2015-16 season (18 points). His main attribute is the 102 blocks he's provided, so anyone who's been depending on Tanev should be pleasantly surprised by the offense he's brought to the table.

He's got 12 points in 38 games this year, matching his output from 55 appearances in 2018-19. Tanev's never had more than 20 points in a single season, but the defensive specialist appears poised to challenge that mark this year. He's added 88 blocked shots and 12 PIM.

Tanev recorded a power-play assist and four blocked shots in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Penguins.

EDGE Analysis

Tanev has a goal and three assists in his last five games. The helper was his first power-play point since 2015-16 -- the defenseman is virtually never used in that situation at this point in his career. Tanev now has 11 points, 87 blocks and 27 shots on goal through 37 contests. Fantasy owners in deeper formats may want to take a look at the 30-year-old while he's running hot, although he may hold more appeal in DFS.
