Nelson will be a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game against Vegas.
EDGE Analysis
Nelson will take a seat with the return of Zach Bogosian to the lineup. Nelson had played in all five of Buffalo's games this season, but didn't contribute offensively. He had no points, and just three shots on net, but was a regular on the penalty kill. Consider him the team's seventh defenseman for the time being.

Nelson signed a two-year, $1.625 million deal with the Sabres on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Nelson was set to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer, so this new contract will put an end to speculation regarding whether or not he'd be back with Buffalo in 2018-19. Once a highly regarded and highly sought after prospect, Nelson hasn't hit the heights that were expected of him as a pro, bouncing between the Sabres and AHL Rochester for the past two seasons.

The Sabres are looking to re-sign Nelson, The Buffalo News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Signed out of Minnesota-Mankato as an undrafted free agent, Nelson is expected to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. In two seasons with the Sabres Nelson has appeared in 48 games, scoring three goals and eight points, and also 96 games with AHL Rochester. With both Josh Gorges and Justin Falk unlikely to be re-signed, the Sabres will be looking for bodies to shore up their blue line. If he's re-signed, Nelson will likely be a third pairing or depth defenseman next season.

Nelson was reassigned to AHL Rochester on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Nelson ended his NHL season in troubling fashion, accruing zero points and a minus-6 rating in the last three outings. However, that's reminiscent of the season as a whole, since Nelson compiled just three goals, eight points and a minus-14 rating in 37 games. The 25-year-old will look to turn things around to help AHL Rochester make a run for the Calder Cup.

Nelson is slated to play Monday against Nashville, The Buffalo News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Nelson did not play Saturday against Chicago due to a lower-body injury, but he's expected to return to the lineup and take Victor Antipin's spot. Nelson will play alongside Brendan Guhle, his usual partner with AHL Rochester. Nelson has appeared in 26 games this season and averaging over 18 minutes per game. His mobility makes him a better fit against Nashville, but Buffalo are huge underdogs against one of the league's best teams.

Nelson is considered day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
EDGE Analysis
Nelson's absence leaves a vacancy in the lineup that will be filled by Justin Falk on Saturday. However, Falk doesn't offer much intrigue from a fantasy standpoint, totaling just two points (one goal, one assist) over 37 games this season. Nelson's next opportunity to draw in arrives Monday against the Predators and he can't be counted out with his day-to-day label.

Nelson scored his second goal of the season while adding two shots and a minus-1 rating in Wednesday's 5-1 loss to the Flames.
EDGE Analysis
His third-period goal with 18 seconds left denied David Rittich his first career shutout. Nelson has only seven points in 23 games with the Sabres this season, and while he is seeing consistent ice time he doesn't have the skill set or the premium opportunities to be much of a fantasy asset.

Nelson was sent down to AHL Rochester in a paper move to make him eligible for the AHL playoffs Monday, John Vogl of the Buffalo News reports.
EDGE Analysis
This paper move means Nelson won't actually be sent down to the AHL and will be staying with the Sabres. It just means that he can play for the Americans in the postseason. However, it wouldn't be surprising to see the 25-year-old stick with Buffalo for the rest of the year. Since being called up in January he's played in all 19 games for the Sabres, notching one goal and five assists.

Nelson was recalled from AHL Rochester on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
With Nathan Beaulieu dealing with an illness, the Sabres called in reinforcements on the blue line by promoting Nelson. The 25-year-old has notched 11 points in 37 games with the Americans this season and would be making his 2017-18 debut, if he slots into the lineup against the Rangers on Thursday.

The Sabres assigned Nelson to AHL Rochester on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Rasmus Ristolainen (upper body) was activated off injured reserve and will return to Buffalo's lineup for Friday's game against Edmonton, so the Sabres are no longer in need of Nelson's services as a depth defender. The 25-year-old American will remain in the minors unless the big club is once again in need of reinforcements at defense due to injury later this season.
