Contending teams would like to add a player with his grit and tenacity to their playoff run, and the free agent to be could always sign back with the Islanders after the season.

Clutterbuck could be one of the more attractive trade pieces on the Islanders before the deadline, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.

Clutterbuck is in the final year of his contract, so an acquiring team wouldn't have to worry about signing him to a new deal unless it wanted to. This is likely just one of those odd little statistics that show up from time to time on each team. The five goals are the most that Clutterbuck has scored in a season since the 2018-19 campaign. The Islanders are in last place in their division but have also played the least games in the NHL. They are scheduled to play 10 of their 11 games before the All-Star break at home. If they don't take advantage of these games and move up dramatically in the standings, players like Clutterbuck, who are in the last year of their contract, could be headed elsewhere by the trade deadline.
