Clutterbuck getting TKO'd from a contest by virtue of getting hit is rather ironic considering the Ontario native has amassed 2,828 -- including five before departing in this latest contest -- but then again, Gudas is a punisher in his own right. Clutterbuck will be reevaluated ahead of Sunday's road game against the Hurricanes.

This should not come as to much of a surprise as Clutterbuck hasn't broke the 30-point mark in a season since 2010 with the Wild. Clutterbuck has been a mainstay on the fourth-line for the Islanders along with Casey Cizikas and Matt Martin. His main role is as an agitator and to hit anything and everything that moves. Clutterbucks main value in fantasy leagues is in the hit category where for the third straight season he is on pace for 220-plus hits.

Clutterbuck was on the ice for 15:21 in the preseason opener, which also happened to be the Islanders coaching debut for Barry Trotz. It was interesting to see Clutterbuck on the man advantage considering his average ice time in that special teams situation had amounted to seconds in each of the past four seasons. However, if there's any time to experiment, it's the preseason.

Clutterbuck finished the season with eight goals, 10 assists, and a minus-7 rating in 76 games this season.

EDGE Analysis

Outside of the minus-7 rating those numbers are pretty much in line with what Clutterbuck has done during his five seasons in an Islander uniform. The problem is that his salary ($4 million, $3.5 million cap hit) would seem to be way to high for what he brings to the table. Clutterbuck is signed through the 2021-22 season so he's likely not going anywhere, but he's just another in what looks like a long line of questionable signings by GM Garth Snow. Clutterbuck should once again be a mainstay on the fourth-line next season for the Islanders.
