Gibbons sustained an injury to his right knee in Friday's game against the Avalanche, and he'll be reevaluated ahead of Saturday's road game against the Blue Jackets, NJ.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The third-year pivot headed to the training room in the third period and was able to come back to finish the game, but coach John Hynes said Gibbons will be checked out further, presumably for precautionary reasons.

Gibbons scored a goal on his lone shot against the Bruins in a 3-2 shootout loss Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
This gives Gibbons 10 goals on the year, which doubles his previous season high. However, he's been extremely lucky to this point. Those 10 goals have come on a mere 29 shots.

Gibbons potted his eighth goal in 12:20 of ice time during Sunday's 7-5 win over Chicago.
EDGE Analysis
Gibbons has ridden an unsustainable 33.3 percent shooting percentage to his hot start, but that's unlikely to last considering he came into this season with a mere five goals on 50 shots in 66 career NHL games. The 29-year-old bottom-six forward will likely become droppable in standard leagues once his luck starts to even out.

Gibbons scored a goal through a season-high 19:09 of ice time during Friday's 6-3 loss to Edmonton.
EDGE Analysis
The undersized winger has been a sneaky offensive contributor for the Devils this season with six goals and eight points through 12 games. However, he's probably not going to score at this pace over the long haul, and especially since Gibbons isn't currently receiving consistent power-play time or skating in a top-six role. Still, considering his strong start, Gibbon's role could expand like it did Friday.

Gibbons scored his third goal in Tuesday's 5-4 shootout win over the Lightning.
EDGE Analysis
The 29-year-old Gibbons doesn't exactly fit New Jersey's youth movement, but he's been a key contributor in the team's surprising hot start. Despite skating in a bottom-six role and not seeing any power-play time, Gibbons has three goals, two assists and a plus-6 rating through six games. The career AHLer came into this season with just 22 points in 66 career NHL contests, so maintaining this early success will likely prove tough.

Gibbons was waived by New Jersey on Monday, Rick Ralph of TSN 1290 Winnipeg reports.
EDGE Analysis
The former Boston College standout entered training camp with what appeared to be his best chance to crack an NHL roster since 2014-15, but failed to make the grade. If Gibbons clears waivers, expect him to be assigned to AHL Binghamton where he scored 16 goals and 36 points in 72 contests last season.

Gibbons signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Devils on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Gibbons hasn't seen NHL ice since the 2014-15 season, when he played for Columbus. He produced modest numbers for AHL Albany last season, racking up 36 points in 72 games. With first-overall pick, Nico Hischier, in the program now too, it'll be even more difficult for Gibbons to make the big club lineup.

Gibbons will join New Jersey on a professional tryout agreement (PTO), Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gibbons last played in the NHL during the 2014-15 season with Columbus where he racked up five assists over 25 games played. At only five-foot-eight and 170 pounds, the 28-year-old lacks the size of a traditional center but he makes up for that good passing and hands that have resulted in a career plus-7 rating at the professional level. However, given his limited experience and lack of a significantly productive track record, he likely projects as a fourth or fifth line forward if does get signed longterm.

Gibbons collected a goal and two assists in Monday's 6-3 preseason win over New Jersey.
EDGE Analysis
The 27-year-old center joined another former Penguins forward (Jayson Megna) in lighting up the cross-river rival Devils. Gibbons, Megna and Luke Adam played most of the game on the team's third line and combined for three goals and two assists. While we can't confidently suggest Gibbons will produce like this if he's still on Broadway come opening night, the performance certainly doesn't hurt his chances of making the roster.

Gibbons signed a one-year contract with the Rangers on Wednesday. Gibbons split his season roughly evenly between AHL Springfield and the Blue Jackets in 2014-15, playing in 26 games at the former and 25 at the latter. He likely wouldn't have seen as much frequent action with the Blue Jackets had the team not dealt with an array of injuries, so it could be tougher to him to break through the deep Rangers forward ranks.
