Sterling secured a professional tryout agreement with St. Louis on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Sterling is a known quantity for the Blues, having been part of their organization during the 2011-12 season. Since that time he has played abroad, most recently with Salzburg EC of the Austrian league. During his past two campaigns, the 32-year-old averaged over a point per game, which no doubt put him back on the team's radar. There will be a lot of competition for those bottom-six roster spots, but Sterling's experience in Europe could give him the inside edge.

Brett Sterling has been sent to the minors. Sterling will report to AHL Peoria. He has no points and a minus-one rating in four games with the Blues this season.

Brett Sterling impressed the Blues in his season debut on Wednesday, so he'll be back in the lineup Friday. "I like his energy, he goes to the net," Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said. "He could have scored three goals. Right now he gives us jump where we need it back there." Sterling might get some playing time with the man advantage, but he's also expected to be on the fourth line. With that in mind, we can't recommend picking him up just yet.

The St. Louis Blues promoted Brett Sterling from the AHL on Nov. 20. Sterling is a high-scoring forward in the AHL, with 22 points in 18 minor league games. Size could be his biggest issue, though; he's listed at just 5-foot-7 and typically those measurements are generous. Still, Sterling hasn't ever gotten a shot with Ken Hitchcock behind the wheel before, so you never know. He's marginal from a fantasy perspective at best, though.

The Blues sent twelve players, including Brett Sterling, to Peoria of the AHL. T.J. Hensick, Jay Barriball, Kyle Hagel, Anthony Nigro and Anthony Peluso; defensemen Mark Cundari, Cade Fairchild, Brett Ponich and Danny Syvret; goaltender Jake Allen along with Jonathan Cheechoo and Sterling will toli in the AHL to start the season. At one point, we thought Sterling might have what it takes to be a second or third liner in the NHL. We don't think that any more.

Brett Sterling has agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with the St. Louis Blues. Sterling has been an excellent player at the AHL level, but he hasn't been able to earn a permanent spot on an NHL squad. At this point he should be regarded as a depth player, but he's still worth keeping an eye on if he manages to earn a roster spot with the Blues.
