Byram is out Monday against San Jose with an upper-body injury, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Byram will miss his first game since making his NHL debut in January. The rookie blueliner will be replaced in the lineup by Conor Timmins for Monday's game. He'll be questionable for Wednesday's rematch with the Sharks.

Byram had two hits and seven PIM in Friday's 3-2 win over Arizona.
EDGE Analysis
The 19-year-old Byram dropped his gloves for the first time in the NHL and was taken down by the Coyotes' Drake Caggiula. Prior to Friday, he had four fights during a four-year career in the WHL. The rookie has 19 PIM over 14 games.

Byram posted an assist and two blocked shots in Tuesdays' 3-2 win over the Golden Knights.
EDGE Analysis
Byram was on the ice in the final minute of a tied game. He helped out on Nazem Kadri's game-winning goal. Byram has ascended to a top-pairing role in the absence of Cale Makar (upper body) -- Byram skated 25:03 in Tuesday's game. The 19-year-old blueliner has two assists, 16 shots on goal, nine blocks and a plus-2 rating through 10 games. It's a stretch to say he'll be a Calder Trophy candidate, but Byram's chipping in when the Avalanche need him most and should easily establish himself as a fixture among the defense corps.

Byram filled in for Cale Makar on the top pair during Sunday's 1-0 loss to the Golden Knights.
EDGE Analysis
Byram was allotted a season-high 23:07 of ice time, recording five hits and three blocked shots, also season highs. Makar could return to action Tuesday, but it's clear head coach Jared Bednar is comfortable giving the 19-year-old Byram a larger role.

Byram had one shot on net over 19:26 of ice time in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Wild.
EDGE Analysis
Prior to the game, the Avalanche announced the 19-year-old Byram, who has one year of junior eligibility left, would remain with the NHL club for the entirety of the 2020-21 season. That was a prudent decision given the loss of Devon Toews, who could be out long term with a foot injury. Additionally, Byram's partner on the second pair, Erik Johnson, was removed from Saturday's game early in the first period with an upper-body injury. The rookie's role has grown significantly since he made his NHL debut 10 days ago as a member of the third pair.

Byram will remain with the Avalanche for the entirety of the 2020-21 season, Adrian Dater of Colorado Hockey Now reports.
EDGE Analysis
The WHL season is set to begin, but Byram will be staying with the Avalanche despite another year of eligibility in juniors. The 19-year-old has earned the right to play at this level after proving himself through five games with the team. Furthermore, Devin Toews' potentially long-term foot injury is another reason to keep Byram with the big club. There are high expectations for the 2019 fourth overall pick, who recorded 42 points over 50 games in the WHL last year.

Byram had two shots on goal and blocked one while getting a team-high 21:14 of ice time in Tuesday's 7-3 win over the Sharks.
EDGE Analysis
The Avalanche had the game in hand midway through the second period, so they could afford to give the rookie extra shifts, including minutes on both special-team units. Not that Byram hasn't earned the playing time. He's moved quickly in four games from the third pair to the second, increasing his ice time in each successive game. Colorado head coach Jared Bednar trusts him on the ice at the end of games, and Byram was on the ice in overtime for the game-winning goal Friday against Anaheim. The Avs can use six games to evaluate the 19-year-old Byram before deciding whether or not to send him back to the Western Hockey League.

Byram could remain with the Avalanche for the season, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
There are a few signs that indicate the organization will keep the 19-year-old Byram beyond the six-game limit they are allowed to use for evaluation before sending him back to the Western Hockey League. Byram logged a career-high 18:32 on the second pair during Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Ducks, so they are pleased with his performance over the first three games. He replaced Ryan Graves, who was made a healthy inactive for the game. Then Monday, Colorado placed Greg Pateryn on waivers and sent Dennis Gilbert to AHL Colorado, reducing the number of defensemen available for the NHL roster. If Pateryn goes unclaimed, the Avs can place him on the taxi squad. With Erik Johnson (conditioning) not yet ready, Byram is in the top six. Once Johnson's ready to play, the Avs can simply move Conor Timmins to the taxi squad.

Byram posted an assist, four shots on goal and a plus-2 rating in Friday's 3-2 overtime win over the Ducks.
EDGE Analysis
Byram notched the primary helper on Mikko Rantanen's third-period goal. In just his second NHL game, Byram can check his first point off his milestone list. The Avalanche are gifted with a plethora of young and talented blueliners this year, so they can afford to shelter the 19-year-old Byram as he adjusts to the professional game. He has contributed five shots on goal and two PIM through his first two outings, skating in a third-pairing role. It's only up from here -- dynasty managers will want Byram active, while those in redraft leagues will want to see how he develops over the next few weeks to see if he'll stick with the big club.

Byram had one shot and two PIM in 11:19 of ice time in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Kings.
EDGE Analysis
Byram, Colorado's first-round pick in 2019, made his NHL debut Thursday, serving as one of seven active defensemen on the roster. Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar thought the 19-year-old held is own against older players but made note of areas where Byram can improve, Callie Parmele of the Avalanche's official site reports. "The more he plays, the more he is going to understand that he's probably got to move [the puck] a little bit quicker sometimes, and that what's there when he first gets the puck is probably the best option." The coach said earlier that Byram would get at least a six-game look before making a decision about him staying in the NHL for the full season. Colorado is stacked on the blue line, so it may make sense to send him back to the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League instead of starting Byram's NHL clock.
