Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils look to make it three in a row as they take on the Chicago Blackhawks who will be looking to rebound after last night's overtime loss to the NY Islanders. Antti Raanta (LIKELY) should get the start after Corey Crawford played last night and looked good in his return from injury despite the loss. The Hawks have been in some tight-knit games of late and this should be no different. Chicago in a close one....Henrik Lundqvist will be put to the test in tonight's matchup against Marc-Andre Fleury and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The "King" has revived his game with a 2-game winning streak while Fleury lost in his last outing to NJ in a 2-1 duel. The Pens have loads of firepower and unless Lundqvist plays at his best, the Rangers will be written off....We turn from the King to Bishop as the Tampa Bay Lightning head into Calgary to take on Karri Ramo and the Flames. The rebuilding Flames are up against arguably the hottest goaltender in the NHL this year in Ben Bishop (LIKELY). The Bolts should take this one but expect the Flames not lie down and die...If having being beaten up by the San Jose Sharks last night wasn't enough, the Edmonton Oilers head into Anaheim to take on Jonas Hiller (LIKELY) and the Ducks. Ilya Bryzgalov (LIKELY) hasn't exactly been the answer ever since his signing. The Ducks are just too good to be stuck by the Oil.
FANTASY MUST-START
Ben Bishop, Tampa Bay @ Calgary
Jonas Hiller, Anaheim vs. Edmonton

***NEW FEATURE*** We have added our 3 FANTASY STARS OF THE NIGHT to our Home Page. Just look in the right margin under PRIME UPDATE. We hope you enjoy!
In a battle of the Titans, Chicago Blackhawks' Goalie Antti Raanta was able to stonewall the Los Angeles Kings 1-0. Martin Jones was nearly as perfect as he stopped 29 of 30 saves as Jones rebounded from his poor start last game out...Jones will, in all likelihood, be sent back to the AHL as Jonathan Quick is nearing a return and may even get into tonight's game versus Dallas, but more likely to play Thursday against St. Louis. Corey Crawford is also close to returning and resuming his No. 1 starter's role but Raanta's play of late should earn him more starts down the road....After what was a disastrous first part of the season, Ottawa Senators' G Craig Anderson seems to be turning his game around and not a moment too soon. Anderson has now won 3 in a row and if the Ottawa Senators want to make the playoffs and some noise, they will need Anderson to play at the highest level that he is capable of. You may still be able to acquire the Ottawa goaltender on the cheap...It is quite obvious that the goaltending was pretty much non-existent in the Detroit-Nashville game as the Preds defeated the Red Wings 6-4. Jimmy Howard returned from injury and only made 23 of 28 saves and his season's woes continue. Marek Mazanec wasn't much better stopping only 21 of 25 SOG. We'll give Howard a few games to get back into game shape to decide where his season is going, while the Predators await the return of elite goaltender Pekka Rinne from his hip infection....Philly G Steve Mason was the reason that the Flyers were able to squeak out a win in Vancouver last night stopping 41 of 44 SOG. Mason continues his rebound season and has played well ever since his arrival to Philadelphia at last year's trade deadline.
More Fantasy Game Notes: If you haven't already, you might want to rush out and pick up Michael Raffl of the Philadelphia Flyers. All the rookie has done since his call up is go 2-9-11 points in 27 games but his recent play has improved as he is playing alongside red-hot Claude Giroux. Raffl has 10 points in the past 13 games and if he sticks should be able to gather some points but you may run into a little inconsistency from the rookie. He had 2 assists in last night's game against the Canucks but went scoreless in three prior games...

Goalie Start: Raanta gets the nod for the Blackhawks. dailyfaceoff.com Mon 12/30/13 2:56 PM
Raanta allowed five goals on 25 shots in a shootout loss to the Blues on Saturday. It was only the second time in Raanta's last 11 games that he has allowed more than two goals. The first time he faced the Kings he stopped 21 of 22 shots in a 3-1 home win.

Craig Anderson just might be turning it around after winning his past two starts, both against two of the Eastern Conference's top teams, Pittsburgh and Boston. Philipp Grubauer has played well since his call up but has lost 2 out of his last three. Ottawa is on the cusp of the eighth playoff spot so a win would do wonders while the Washington Capitals could distance themselves a little from the middle of the pack. Look for the Senators to win a tight one on home ice...The match of the night belongs to Los Angeles and eh Chicago Blackhawks. Martin Jones and Antti Raanta have played superbly in place of injured starters Jonathan Quick and Corey Crawford, with Jones getting all the press. Jones actually suffered his first loss against 8 wins last time out against Dallas, losing 5-2 which was such an aberration from the way he had been playing prior. Chicago continues to put up a boatload of points in games lately and they should be able to solve Jones. Raanta is a rave!...With Jonas Gustavsson sidelined with a groin injury, Jimmy Howard gets back into the crease following his injury in the nick of time. Hopefully, for Red Wings fans, he shed his inconsistent play that possessed Howard from the start of the season. Carter Hutton will get the nod as the Nashville Predators await the return of Pekka Rinne. Hutton has lost 4 straight while the Red Wings have won 3 of 4 and ghave their top two stars back in the lineup, Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Wings are hot!....Steve Mason (LIKELY) and the Philadelphia Flyers head to Vancouver to take on Eddie Lack (LIKELY) and the Canucks. Lack is coming off a 2-0 shutout of the Calgary Flames and has won 3 in a row since replacing injured Roberto Luongo. As good as the Flyers have been playing of late, the Canucks are not lacking with lack in net. Go Nucks!

Jimmy Howard, Detroit @ Nashville

Goalie Start: Raanta starts for the Blackhawks. dailyfaceoff.com Sat 12/28/13 7:56 PM
Raanta stopped 16 of 18 shots in a blowout win over the Avalanche on Friday. He will get the start in both games of the back-to-back as the Hawks find themselves in St. Louis tonight. Raanta has been extremely solid on the road posting a 4-1-0 record with a 2.57 GAA and .909 SV%.
Goalie Start: Raanta gets the call for the Blackhawks. dailyfaceoff.com Fri 12/27/13 2:56 PM
Raanta was not very busy on Monday facing only 12 shots - he stopped 10 of them in a 5-2 win over the Devils. Tonight will mark his 10th straight appearance as he continues to start in place of Corey Crawford (lower-body). Raanta is 8-1-2 with a 2.20 GAA and .916 SV% to start his NHL career.

Back from the holidays and rarin' to go! Despite getting a shutout in last game out, Craig Anderson will sit until tomorrow's night matchup against Boston in a home-and-home back-to-back nights schedule. Robin Lehner gets the nod against Tuukka Rask and needs to put up a good performance in order to keep his foot in the crease for future starts. Tonight's game in Beantown so expect the B's to come out blazing....Curtis McElhinney and the Columbus Blue Jackets head into New Jersey to take on Martin Brodeur and the Devils. The Jackets are 2-0 against New Jersey, beating both Jersey goaltenders and could stretch their winning streak to 3, matching their season long. Brodeur has shown signs of slowing down and perhaps the Devs are looking forward to tomorrow's night match against the NY Islanders, so a good chance for Columbus tonight.... It looks like Cam Talbot will go for the third straight game and why not. The Rangers are winning with Talbot in the net, while Lundqvist hasn't been up to his stellar self. Perhaps the King is injured and needs Humpty Dumpty's men to put him back together again. The Blueshirts will be up against Washington Capitals Rookie sensation Philipp Grubauer who has only gone 4-1-1 with a 2.20 GAA and .934 SP. The trend this season has been the unknown or unrecognized rookie goalies coming in and taking advantage of their starts. Caps kick the Cam down the road....The Pittsburgh Penguins were shutout before the Christmas Holiday and I'm sure they have been chomping at the bit to avenge that loss. Justin Peters will bear the front of that attack. His numbers don't warrant his third start in a row but with Cam Ward not showing any signs of being fully recovered, the Canes don't have a lot of choices. Marc-Andre Fleury is having a spectacular season and that should continue tonight in Carolina.....The original thought is to go with the Toronto Maple Leafs in this matchup against the Buffalo Sabres considering the early season woes of the Sabres, but Ryan Miller has won three in a row and the team has been playing much better of late. Not an easy task for Jonathan Bernier who has lost 6 in a row after a stellar early season. I'm sticking with Miller....Ondrej Pavelec and the Winnipeg Jets need to step it up or they may start hearing it from the fans. Perhaps this will be a good matchup against the low-scoring Minnesota Wild who will have Niklas Backstrom in net ...
Goalie Start: Raanta starts on Monday. dailyfaceoff.com Mon 12/23/13 8:56 AM
DAILY PRIME - DECEMBER 21, 2013: BACKSTROM'S LITTLE HELPERS primepucks.com Sat 12/21/13 12:09 AM
We all know about Santa's little helpers but recently Washington Capitals Center Nicklas Backstrom is doling out assists like giving away candy canes at Christmas. Last night against the Canes in fact, Backstrom had 4 assists, the second time in December that he had 4 helpers in a game. Always known more for his assists than goal-scoring but at the rate he is dishing them out lately, he could possibly set a new career high. His previous high was 68 back in 2009-2010. The last few years injuries took their toll along with a different system in place, but don't worry, Backstrom is back to his old ways....Caps Goalie Philipp Grubauer got the win to raise his season record to 3-0-1 with a 2.06 GAA and a .937 SP. If he continues at this rate, Braden Holtby better start bringing his ‘A' game if he wants to keep his starting job. It might be a good idea to grab him off the wire to handcuff your Capital goalie situation....
More Fantasy Game Notes: The desperate Islanders only needed a match against their arch-rival NY Rangers to get the blood boiling again. Early Ranger sloppiness led to 2 short-handed goals in the 1st, but hey managed to overcome those miscues to take a 3-2 lead before the Isles took the lead back and sealed the game late in the third period. The Blueshirts have been a huge disappointment so far whereas the Islanders were expected to be playoff-worthy but there is a little more leniency because of their youth. With Evgeni Nabokov back in net for the Isles, peraps this is a good time to grab some Islander players on the cheap before they start to turn it around....I'LL HAVE A ‘Z' PLEASE PAT. If you are looking for a player to somewhat breakout for a good second half run, look no further than the New Jersey Devils' Travis Zajac. Although you can't expect huge scoring from the Devils, Zajac does have 5 points in his past 5 games. So if you need some consistency on the back end of your forward group, Zajac could be a good fit. He did have back-to-back seasons of 60+ points from 2008-2010....MAKING HIS MARK. Winnipeg's Mark Scheifele has scored in 5 straight games with 7 points and 8 points in 7 games. Scheifele only has 15 points on the season, so you can see how hot he has gotten. He seems to be counted more lately and he has responded. The Jets hanger is crowded, but he can push his way and grab some ice time from some non-producing forwards, he might be worth a shot to help your team down the stretch....NOT ‘LACK'ING. It wasn't the ...
