THE GOALIE EDGE: 10/21/13 primepucks.com Mon 10/21/13 12:32 PM

The marquee matchup of the night is too close to call, as the up-start Colorado Avalanche are paying a visit to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Av's are 4-0 on the road, with backup J.S. Giguere in the net tonight. However, you cannot discount M.S. Fleury's incredible play to start the year, especially at home.. The Calgary Flames will again be riding Karri Ramo in the crease, even though his numbers are 0-1-1 with a 4.37 GAA. Jonathan Quick and the L.A. Kings have won five of six, so go with the hot hand. Huge edge for Quick.. I love those Red Wings, but Jimmy Howard's return in the 5-2 loss to Phoenix now seems untimely, considering backup Jonas Gustavsson had won three straight starts. Antti Niemi and San Jose have been clicking on all cylinders, so their road date at Joe Louis Arena should be a triumphiant one. Niemi wins a close one. FANTASY MUST-STARTS Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles vs. Calgary Antti Niemi, San Jose @ Detroit SLEEPER ALERT None DAILY GOALIE PICKS Steve (10-8) Jonathan Quick Ray (7-11) Jonathan Quick Mike (10-7) Marc-Andre Fleury

Goalie Start: Niemi in net for Sharks. dailyfaceoff.com Sat 10/19/13 2:56 PM

Niemi will make his eighth straight start tonight. He is 6-0-1 with a 1.70 GAA and .930 SV% and faces the Flames tonight - he is a must start.

THE GOALIE EDGE: 10/19/13 primepucks.com Sat 10/19/13 7:09 AM

Several early games on this busy Saturday slate, so we are up and early! Edmonton is looking to avoid a sixth straight defeat at the hands of the Senators in Ottawa. It won't be easy as the up-start Senators are hot, while the struggling Oilers are not. Craig Anderson will have the night off, as Robin Lehner is confirmed to start for Ottawa. Take Lehner easy as the streak reaches seven... While Colorado is no longer undefeated after their home loss to Detroit, they have been dynamic on both ends of the ice and should be buzzing to get back in the win column. It should be easy against a reeling Buffalo squad, who were booed off home ice in their last defeat to Vancouver. Backup goalie J.S. Giguere will be handling the starting duties for the Avalanche. In his one start this season, he blanked the Bruins to the tune of 39 saves. Huge edge to Giguere.. It could be a tough night for Calgary goalie Karri Ramo, who is getting his first start since the season opener. He faces the hot San Jose Sharks, who are coming off a tight shoot-out loss to Dallas. Niemi not confirmed yet for San Jose, but the Sharks should prevail regardless of who is in net. Take San Jose.. Ben Bishop and the Lightning has been on fire, but the Boston Bruins have had their number in recent games. This should be a "doozy", but the Bruins should end on top... Montreal is looking for it's fifth straight win tonight against Nashville. Carey Price is off to a hot start and should be able to dispose of the offensively-starved Predators... I like Tim Thomas to lead a Florida upset of the Minny Wild. There should be a confidence build-up for the Panthers after the "near-miss" against Boston.. Hey, New Jersey is due for a win, so who better to end their losing streak than their arch-rival, the New York Rangers who are entering the game without their two best forwards in Rick Nash and Ryan Callahan? It could be a goaltending duel, but go with Schneider. FANTASY MUST-STARTS Robin Lehner, Ottawa vs. Edmonton Antti Niemi, San Jose vs. Calgary J.S. Giguere, Colorado @ Buffalo SLEEPER ALERT Cory Schneider, New Jersey vs. NYR Tim Thomas, Florida vs. Minn DAILY GOALIE PICKS Steve (9-8): Antti Niemi * Ray (7-10): Robin Lehner Mike (9-7): Jonathan Quick

Niemi stopped 25 of 27 shots in a 6-2 win over the Blues on Tuesday. It was Niemi's sixth win in as many starts, while posting a 1.50 GAA and .936 SV%. He will try and get to 7-0 tonight in Dallas. He was 1-2-1 with a 2.73 GAA and .897 SV% in four starts against the Stars last season.

A lot of games on the docket tonight with some very interesting matchups. The Vancouver Canucks visit Buffalo to take on Ryan Miller and the Sabres.  Miller finally got his first win the other night and has been playing well in net but is up against a formidable opponent in Roberto Luongo and the Canucks.  The ‘Nucks should take this one....Tim Thomas returns to the net for Florida but will be facing his former team, the Boston Bruins.  Be sure that he will give his best efforts as the B's have been struggling offensively lately.  Perhaps the Bruins will use this as incentive to break out of their early season slump....Two hot goaltenders squaring up against one another as Josh Harding will face Ben Bishop in Tampa.  The Wild's defense could stymie the Bolts' offense especially if Martin St. Louis misses the game.  Wild upset in the making....Evgeni Nabokov and the Islanders take on the Edmonton Oilers pitting two up-and-coming offensive teams against one another.  The Oilers goaltending has looked really suspect of late but Devan Dubnyk will get the nod after sitting out both ends of back-to-back games.  Tough one to call as his confidence is really shot or he will come out with his best effort to prove critics wrong....Carey Price is coming off a shutout of the Jets and now will take on Sergei Bobrovsky and the Blue Jackets.  Columbus will be a good test for Price as he needs to put a string of good showings together for Montreal....Can Jaroslav Halak bounce back from his tough loss against the San Jose Sharks the other night?  He will be up against Corey Crawford and the Chicago Blackhawks.  Another tough matchup for the Blues starter....In the Battle of Pennsylvania, Steve Mason and the Philadelphia Flyers look to right the ship after 3 straight losses.  Marc-Andre Fleury meanwhile has been perfect to start the season, quieting all those playoff performance critics for the time being. Look for Fleury to stay perfect as Mason will suffer another tough luck loss....A true test for the 6-0 Colorado Avalanche as Semyon Varlamov takes on Jonas Gustavsson and the Detroit Red Wings.... San Jose should have an easy one in Dallas with Dan Ellis starting for the Stars.  These games usually spell letdown, but I don't see it here....New Jersey, still looking for their first win of the season, turn to Martin Brodeur.  He will be pitted up against Craig Anderson and the Ottawa Senators who look to build off their road win in Phoenix...Two elite goaltenders likely...

DAILY PRIME- OCTOBER 16, 2013: BIG NIGHT FOR BIG NAMES IN THE NHL primepucks.com Wed 10/16/13 9:22 AM

Toronto goaltender James Reimer is hanging tough in goal as he competes for the starting job against Jonathan Bernier. Last night he had 36 saves and was very sharp in the Leafs 4-1 win over Minnesota.  The reality is that Toronto has two solid goaltenders that will likely share time depending on who has the hot hand.  This greatly diminishes their fantasy value.  Forward Mason Raymond had 2 goals for the Leafs and is having a solid season with 4 goals and 8 points in 7 games. He is worth picking up as a depth forward as he has formed some chemistry with Kessel....Buffalo finally managed to win a game 4-3 in a shootout over the Islanders.  Ryan Miller was his old self in goal for the Sabres with a great game with 41 saves. But he is likely to have a tough year unless the team can provide some offensive support.  Buffalo defenseman Christian Ehrhoff finally got on the scoreboard with 2 assists. We like Ehroff, but on this team he is a 4th defenseman at best....The Flyers dismal season continued last night as they lost to the Canucks 3-2.  They are losing some tough matches as they adjust to new Head Coach Craig Berube's system.  Vancouver forward Ryan Kesler had 2 goals, including the game winner, but has started off slow with only one point in the previous six games.  Maybe he will heat up a bit now as we like him as a 70-point player. Don't discount the Dupuis: The Penguins beat the Oilers last night 3-2 as Sidney Crosby was his usual self with 3 assists, but it was teamate Pascal Dupuis who is interesting with a goal and an assist. Dupuis has six points in six games for Pittsburgh, and he is a great sleeper forward pick.  If he is still available in your pool you should grab him immediately.  Marc-Andre Fleury had 20 saves for the win, and he is now 5-0 with a 1.80 goals against average and a .926 save percentage. It looks like he is ready for a big year, but the Pens need him to play big in the playoffs; but in the regular season he is fantasy gold. Teddy is ready: We highlighted Teddy Purcell a few days ago, stating that he was getting a lot of top quality ice time for the Lightning. He did not disappoint last night with a goal and an assist in their 5-1 win over Los Angeles.  Purcell now has 8 points in 6 games this year.  Grab him if you can.  The old war horse, Martin St. Louis, had a big night with 2 goals and an assist. This guy is simply amazing at his age and he remains a top fantasy forward. Big night for the old guard: In a bit of a ...
