It was Benoit's first goal of the season and it doubled Colorado's lead in the second period. He also has 10 assists in 20 games. John Mitchell also had a strong game with a goal and an assist, while Cody McLeod and Ryan O'Reilly scored the others goals for the Avalanche. P.A Parenteau added two helpers in the victory.

Andre Benoit won't suit up Saturday against Florida because of a minor wrist injury. Apparently, he wanted to play but was told to sit by doctors. Matt Hunwick will dress in his place.

Andre Benoit missed Monday's practice because of a minor groin injury. However, he's expected to play on Wednesday against Nashville. Benoit has accounted for six assists and 20 shots in 13 games this year to go with a plus-4 rating.

Coach Patrick Roy showcased what he has in mind for his top-six defense corps after practice Wednesday morning. Things could obviously change but injured blueliner Ryan Wilson is expected to be paired with Tyson Barrie, while Jan Hejda will line up alongside Corey Sarich.

Andre Benoit has played on Colorado's power play throughout the preseason. "I just want to bring what I can to the team and make sure I help every night. I want to be a big part," Benoit said. "It's an exciting time right now. The team is heading in the right direction, and I want to help accomplish that." He scored a goal Friday in a 4-3 overtime victory over the Los Angeles Kings. Benoit should add quickness and some offense to Colorado's back end.

The Colorado Avalanche signed defenseman Andre Benoit to a one-year/one-way contract for $900,000/ Benoit had hoped to sign earlier in the off-season with Ottawa but will now play for the Avs. He had three goals and 10 points in 33 regular season games and chipped in with three assists in five playoff games.

Andre Benoit hopes to sign a one-way deal with Ottawa this off-season. "Obviously that's what everyone wants," he said. "You want to be in the NHL. That's where I want to play. I think I've proven to myself I can play in this league. Now it remains to be seen if I've proved it to other people." Benoit can look for a deal to his liking elsewhere, as an unrestricted free agent, if he doesn't get one from Ottawa.
