Nilsson will start in goal for his debut with the Senators in Saturday's game against the visiting Wild, Brent Wallace of TSN.ca reports.

This will be Nilsson's first game since being traded from Vancouver on Wednesday. The Swede carries a 39-54-13 record over a six-year career split between five teams. Nilsson has a career GAA of 3.07 and a save percentage standing at .905 over 117 career games. He'll begin his tenure with Ottawa against a Minnesota team that has a road record of 9-10-0.

The Canucks traded Nilsson and Darren Archibald to the Senators on Wednesday in exchange for Mike McKenna, Tom Pyatt and a sixth-round pick in the 2019 NHL entry draft.

Nilsson won't need to do anything more than switch locker rooms Wednesday, as the Senators and Canucks are set to square off in the evening. He should be in uniform for his new squad, though likely as a backup as the team has already announced that Marcus Hogberg will start between the pipes. Hogberg has been anything but impressive in his first two showings, so Nilsson could move into the primary role moving forward until Craig Anderson (concussion) is cleared to return.

Nilsson will defend the cage for Monday's road clash with the Devils.

Nilsson hasn't seen action since Dec. 18, when he lost to the Lightning after giving up four goals on 36 shots. The netminder hasn't recorded a victory since Oct. 16, as he is 0-7-1 with a 3.51 GAA in his last eight contests. A matchup with New Jersey could help the Swede get back on track, considering he is 4-1-1 with a .952 save percentage in his seven career games against the Devils.

Nilsson will start between the pipes in Tuesday's home game against the Lightning.

Nilsson hasn't been great in the month of December, suffering three consecutive losses while posting a sub-par 3.01 GAA and .899 save percentage over that span. The Swedish netminder will look to start righting the ship while picking up his fourth win of the season in a brutal home matchup with a Tampa Bay club that's 10-3-2 on the road this campaign.

Nilsson will defend the net Thursday versus the Predators.

Nilsson has not seen a large chunk of starts in the crease this season with the younger Jacob Markstrom taking the reins as the primary netminder. Following a 3-0-0- start to the season, Nilsson has dropped six straight decisions between the pipes and has allowed at least three goals in five of the six contests. He may have a tough time breaking into the win column Thursday against Nashville squad posting a plus-17 goal differential through 17 games this season.

Nilsson will guard the home goal Tuesday against the Wild.

EDGE Analysis

Despite taking his fifth loss in eight outings Saturday against the Stars, Nilsson will get another shot between the pipes after performing relatively well in the contest. Nilsson sports a 3.05 GAA and just an .898 save percentage in two home starts but could have a decent shot to snag his first home win of the season Tuesday against a Wild team riding a three-game losing streak.

Nilsson stopped 25 of 27 shots in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Stars.

EDGE Analysis

The 28-year-old appeared to be on track for his first shutout of the season at the midway point of the third period, but two Dallas goals in about six minutes instead saddled Nilsson with his fifth loss of the year. His .905 save percentage on the year isn't going to turn any heads, but with Jacob Markstrom struggling, outings like this could earn Nilsson a bigger workload.
