Alexei Kovalev will reportedly attend training camp with the Florida Panthers, according to George Richards of the Miami Herald.
The 39-year-old forward's last appearance in the NHL was in 2010-11 when he registered 16 goals and 34 points in 74 games between Ottawa and Pittsburgh. Kovalev spent part of the 2011-12 in the KHL, but he expressed his interest to return to the NHL during the summer and said he had offers from teams. He is currently working out in Pompano with the team.

Alexei Kovalev told Quebec-based sports channel TVA Sports this week that he has offers on the table to attend training camps with NHL teams.
"I've received invitations to training camps and hopefully (can) begin skating towards the end of August to be ready for next season (in the NHL)," he said. Kovalev wouldn't reveal which clubs extended an invite though. He is hoping to return for another tour of NHL duty after a brief and unsatisfying experience in the KHL last season.

Alexei Kovalev would like to return to the NHL in 2012-13.
"Hopefully, I'll find an NHL team," he said. "The preference is always going to be a team I've played on (Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators) because you know the environment. And I'd definitely like to come back to Montreal. They're all about the young guys, but I can help in all different ways. And I can still play. I have a lot of energy." He appeared in just 22 games with the KHL's Atlant Moscow Oblast franchise before leaving the team after they made it clear that they no longer wanted him around. Whether or not the Canadiens, or anyone else for that matter, wants Kovalev is another question though after he posted back-to-back sub-par years in Ottawa, with a brief stop in Pittsburgh, before going to play overseas.

Alexei Kovalev lashed out at former Senators coach Cory Clouston and Ottawa sportswriters in an interview with a Russian newspaper over the weekend.
He said that he didn't understand the decision-making of Clouston during his two seasons in Ottawa and that the journalists there know very little about the game. Kovalev also commented that he received a couple of offers from NHL teams, but he wanted more than a one-year deal so he inked a two-year contract with Atlant in the KHL.

Alexei Kovalev has reportedly signed a two-year deal with the KHL Atlant Mytishchi.
Given that Kovalev will be 40 when this deal ends, it seems likely that he's play in his last NHL game. He had 16 goals and 34 points in 74 games last season.
