Injury: Galchenyuk is out for six weeks with a broken hand. dailyfaceoff.com Tue 1/7/14 2:56 PM
Galchenyuk had been struggling lately, posting just one goal and one assist in his last 10 games. This is still a bad break for the Habs who's depth will be tested. Galchenyuk is expected to be back in the middle of February.
DAILY PRIME - DECEMBER 8, 2013: SEGUIN SHINES, JVR TOO, GUSTAVSSON ... primepucks.com Sun 12/8/13 9:27 AM
It was a busy day in the NHL yesterday with 11 games played. Dallas and Philadelphia kicked it off with a matinee, and it was no contest as the Stars won easily 5-1. Tyler Seguin had a big game for Dallas with 3 goals and an assist. 18 year old Star forward Valeri Nichushkin had a 4 point game as well with a goal and 3 assists. He has 15 points now on the season, and he will be a good fantasy player in a few years. I watched the whole game, and in my opinion the best player on the ice was Dallas' Jamie Benn. He only had 1 assist, but he was all over the ice. Flyers goalie Steve Mason deserved a better fate than allowing 4 goals, as he had some tremendous saves, but Philadelphia just did not show up. If he wants to make Team Canada's Olympic team, Claude Giroux is going to have to play a lot better than he did yesterday. He was invisible. The Flyers line that has been getting so much attention Steve Downie, Matt Read and Sean Couturier did nothing...Nice win by Boston over Pittsburgh who is still without Evgeni Malkin. Bruin d-man Zdeno Chara got the game winner, but he is not the same player he used to be with only 12 points on the season. Boston forward Loui Eriksson left the game with an apparent concussion. 19 year old Alex Galchenyuk scored a goal for Montreal against hapless Buffalo. He has 20 points on the season, and he is going to be a good one. Nice keeper for next year.
Anderson struggles continue: Ottawa goaltender Craig Anderson continued his dismal year with a 4-3 loss to Toronto. He has won only 7 games and his goals against is a terrible 3.38 while his save percentage is .897. Look for Robin Lehner to get a lot more starts in goal for the Senators. James van Riemsdyk had a goal and 2 assists for Toronto. He is having a solid year with 25 points on the season.
Superdeau Huberdeau: Jonathan Huberdeau scored the game winning goal in Florida's 2-1 win over Detroit. While Huberdeau has been a disappointment this year with only 14 points so far, we still like him and think he will have a good second half of the season. Jonas Gustavsson suffered his first regulation loss of the season in goal for Detroit, but it was hardly his fault as he had 35 saves. We still think Gustavsson may take over Jimmy Howard's starting position.
Grab Grabovski?: Washington forward Mikhail Grabovski had 2 assists in the Capitals victory over Nashville. With 24 points on the year he is having a career season. Be a little wary because at 29 years old one ...

DAILY PRIME- DECEMBER 3, 2013:HARDING-HAR-HAR primepucks.com Tue 12/3/13 8:20 AM
UPDATE: According to Hockeybuzz.com, Henrik Zetterberg of the Detroit Red Wings will miss 2 weeks with a herniated disk. AND, according to TSN, Vancouver Canuck Alex Burrows is out indefinitely with a broken jaw. With only 3 assists in 17 games played, tha's not the only thing broken. We wish both speedy recoveries.
Even though he had lost 2 in a row and the team 4 in a row, Josh Harding was back in net for the Minnesota Wild and continued his stellar goaltending despite the losses by blanking the Philadelphia Flyers. It was Harding's 3rd shutout of the season in just 19 starts. He also lowered his GAA to 1.45 and saw his save percentage rise to .939. If you haven't already done so and he is still available in your league, grab him ASAP as he has proved he can handle the Number 1 goaltending job in Minnesota....Jason Pominville ended his 5-game goal-less streak with a goal I nthe 3rd period that proved to be the game-winner. Pominville is as streaky as they get and when he gets hot, he gets on a roll. Perhaps you can get him on the cheap....Charlie Coyle also broke a 5-game goal-less streak. Coyle is counted on to provide offense, but at 21 years old he still lacks the consistency.
More Fantasy Game Notes: NY Ranger backup goalie Cam Talbot earned his consecutive start after his stellar effort against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. Talbot didn't fare as well and saw his 6-game winning streak come to an end. He also saw his streak of not allowing more than 2 goals in a game end at 7, which is a Ranger record. He is a more than capable backup but that is all that he will be as long as the King reigns on Broadway....Olli Jokinen was the offensive hero for the Winnipeg Jets in their win over the Rangers with 2 goals and an assist but this Jokinen is past his fantasy prime so don't go rushing out to grab him hoping that he returns to his glory days. Although, he does have 17 points in 29 games played but only 2 power play assists....Except for his one clunker against Chicago, (and could anyone blame him?), Jets' G Ondrej Pavelec has not allowed more than 2 goals in 6 of his last 7 starts. There may be still be a disgruntled owner around if you need a 2nd tier goalie...Destiny is thy name but it is shared by Max Pacioretty and David Desharnais. DAILY PRIME - NOVEMBER 11, 2013: BREAKING NEWS-STAMKOS SERIOUSLY IN... primepucks.com Mon 11/11/13 10:35 AM
BREAKING NEWS: Tampa Bay superstar Steven Stamkos has broken his right tibia in this afternoon's tilt between the Lightning and the Bruins. The league leader in goals (14) and points (23) will be out indefinitely, so obviously this is a devasting loss to Tampa Bay, the NHL, and all fantasy owners. More details and info as we get it, but further fantasy analysis to come.
Varlamov Bounces Back: After a tough outing against Nashville, where he gave up 5 goals on 27 shots, goaltender Semyon Varlamov bounced back strongly with a 33-save effort in Colorado's 4-1 win over Washington. The 25-year old had additional motivation facing his former team, but his excellent play in the crease has been overshadowed by his much-publicized personal issues. Perhaps now, Varlamov owners can be rest assured that his dream season will continue without a hitch, so don't panic and "sell-high" yet. The biggest difference in "Varly's" numbers this season is that he has not been a liability in his road starts. In '12-13, he owned a dismal 1-14 record away from home, with a 3.67 GAA and a .882 SP. However, he has been 3-0 on the road so far with a 1.31 GAA and a .959 SP. Obviously, the "Patrick Roy" factor has Varlamov playing on an All-Star level, so keep riding his hot hand in goal.
More Goalie News: Martin Brodeur enjoyed an easy shutout in the 5-0 win over Nashville, turning aside all 15 shots. He looks to have a leg up in the goaltending competition over Cory Schneider with his recent hot streak, winning four of his last five starts while allowing only five goals over that span.... Frederik Anderson of Anaheim cannot be stopped, as he kicked away 35 of 36 shots in the 3-1 win over Vancouver. He now sports a 6-0 record with a 1.41 GAA and .952 SP, making him a mandatory handcuff for all Jonas Hiller fantasy owners.
Fantasy Game Notes: The fantasy forward of the night was Montreal's Alex Galchenyuk, who scored a goal and added two assists in Montreal's 4-2 win over the Isles. The 19-year old's starpower is on a steep rise, as he collected 14 points in 18 games in his sophomore year. He has been on a line with Brendan Gallagher and Lars Eller, which could end up being the dominant offensive line for the Habs.... Nick Bonino, who scored the game-winner for Anaheim, has the makings of a great fantasy sleeper for this season. With 11 points in 19 games, he has been firmly entrenched in the Duck's top-six and even played on the top line last night with Ryan Getzlaf out due to ...

DAILY PRIME- OCTOBER 10, 2013: HALAK, CARTER, BROWN AND MORE primepucks.com Thu 10/10/13 8:06 AM
St. Louis goaltender Jaroslav Halak outdueled Corey Crawford and the defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks, resulting in a 3-2 victory behind a 26-save effort. We said a few days ago that if Halak stayed hot, Coach Ken Hitchcock would continue to play him. For now, Brian Elliott stays on the bench. St Louis has a solid team and they will compete for the Cup this season....One of our favorite defensemen, Alex Pietrangelo, had two assists last night. We think this could be a huge year for him.... Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane both scored on the power play for the Blackhawks. We are a little wary of Chicago suffering the old Stanley Cup Hangover....Crawford has looked a little shaky in goal for the Blackhawks with Ray Emery gone to Philadelphia. He has a big contract and no competition for his job, and, he really has had only the one good year. Hmmm!
Welcome back Carter:
The Kings have one pure sniper in forward Jeff Carter. Carter had two goals and an assist in the Kings game last night. The amazing thing is that he had an assist. It was his first of the year, while he has scored four goals. Carter could have a big season, especially in the goal scoring department.
Bobby Ryan had a goal and an assist for the Senators. Ryan is going to get the top quality ice time in Ottawa that he did not get in Anaheim. Expect him to have a great year....Captain Dustin Brown had two goals for the Kings. Brown is a little streaky, so don't expect too much from him... Jonathan Quick is struggling a bit in goal for Los Angeles. He does not look like the goalie who won the Stanley Cup a few years ago.
Although the Canadiens lost last night, the kid line still looks good, Lars Eller had a goal and Alex Galchenyuk had an assist. Calgary forward Sven Baertshi scored a goal. He is probably off most fantasy players radar scope, but we think he has a lot of potential and could suprise people. Don't overlook him.
