Thurmond plans to retire before the upcoming season, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
EDGE Analysis
Capable of playing throughout the defensive backfield, Thurmond teamed with Malcolm Jenkins to give the Eagles a top safety duo in 2015. Only 28 years old and arguably the top defensive free agent still available on the market, Thurmond is presumably retiring due to concerns about his long-term health. He played all 16 games last season, but made just 22 regular-season appearances from 2011 to 2014, primarily limited by a slew of lower-body injuries.

Thurmond (elbow/shoulder) is active for Sunday's game against the Bills.
EDGE Analysis
Thurmond practiced fully this week and looks like he'll check in at reasonable health in what represents a critical matchup for both teams' playoff hopes. With the Bills expected to utilize a run-heavy approach in Sunday's game, Thurmond could end up spending more time in the box, which should still lend itself to plenty of tackle opportunities. The safety has recorded 19 combined stops over his last two games.

Thurmond (hamstring) is active Sunday against the Patriots.
EDGE Analysis
After missing Wednesday's practice, Thurmond put in full practices Thursday and Friday and he'll be in the lineup at safety in a tough road test against the Patriots. Despite the matchup, he's been hot lately, as he's forced fumbles in two of his last three games.

Thurmond (hamstring) is listed as probable for Sunday's game in New England.
EDGE Analysis
Thurmond missed Wednesday's practice but then logged full sessions both Thursday and Friday. He's had some issues in coverage the past few weeks, but with 20 tackles over the last three games, Thurmond still makes for a solid IDP choice.

Thurmond (hamstring) practiced fully Thursday, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Following an upgrade from DNP to full in the first two practices of the week, Thurmond's workload was clearly being monitored. In addition three early-season interceptions, Thurmond had been a reliable IDP threat in his first campaign with the Eagles, supplying 56 tackles (41 solo), two sacks, and two forced fumbles in 11 games.

Thurmond (hamstring/calf) did not practice Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
While Byron Maxwell has struggled since leaving the comfy confines of the Legion of Boom, Thurmond has excelled in his new home with the Eagles, filling in nicely at safety for the struggling defense. The 28-year-old converted cornerback was able to play in last Thursday's brutal Thanksgiving loss to the Lions despite an injury to his hamstring, so it's possible Thurmond could suit up for a prime-time matchup against the Patriots this Sunday, but that decision likely won't arrive until closer to the weekend.

Thurmond grabbed a late-game interception and added four tackles in Sunday's 24-17 win over the Jets.
EDGE Analysis
In just three games, Thurmond has set a single-season career-high in interceptions with two. He picked up a couple in the preseason, as well, and has routinely been in good position in the secondary during his brief time with the Eagles. For someone playing his first season ever at safety, Thurmond has been the Eagles' anchor next to safety Malcolm Jenkins.

Thurmond notched an interception and six tackles in Monday's loss to the Falcons.
EDGE Analysis
After two preseason interceptions, Thurmond showed Monday that he will produce during the regular season as well. He has played in four games as an Eagle, and recorded three interceptions. He has been sturdy after switching to safety in his first season with the Eagles.

Thurmond returned an interception for a touchdown in Saturday's 39-26 win over the Packers.
EDGE Analysis
The pick was Thurmond's second in as many games, and the presumed starting safety has seemed comfortable in the Eagles' secondary so far after making the leap from cornerback. He won't be able to bring an interception to the table each time out, but he's looked strong in three preseason games.

Thurmond is expected to start next to Malcolm Jenkins at safety, according to CSN Philadelphia's Geoff Mosher. The Eagles moved Thurmond to safety this offseason, and while he was initially expected to compete for a starting job, it now seems he may essentially be handed one. Second-round rookie Eric Rowe will compete for a starting spot at cornerback, and the Eagles' other options to play safety are underwhelming. Thurmond's role probably won't be conducive to piling up tackles, given that he's on the smaller (and faster) side of the safety spectrum.
