Initially built by NASA to set lines for the Las Vegas casinos in the late 1950s (who do you think funded the Apollo missions? The government? It was the mob ...), The Sin City Betbot 6000 calculated lines for more than 30 years. The Betbot was given various upgrades through the years, not always with the best equipment, but he was very good at setting lines and living the good life. The Betbot was de-commissioned in 1990 after San Francisco destroyed Denver in the Super Bowl. The 45-point spread simply fried a number of the Betbot's wires and he retired. The Betbot was discovered by fantasysharks.com and retooled to give fantasy advice. He lives now to give his own unique, well cultured take on the NFL. The Sin City Betbot 6000 Presents is transcribed by Joe Petrizzi and Tom Walls because "typing ... BZZT ... is a dame's job." Steven Spielberg is basically a good egg. I first met him while he was storyboarding the smash motion picture, Jaws . Spielberg had grand plans for that flick. A fully articulated mechanical shark which would be the star of the whole movie. Things didn't go Spielberg's way, however. The shark they initially tried was a bust. It plain old didn't work. Spielberg called me to stand-in for the shark. They welded a fin to my skin, and shot me with very quick cuts. My screen time as the shark was greatly reduced. This was my idea. I said to Spielberg, "The mind, Stevie, the mind is the true theater of suspense!" Now ... BZZT ... I was incredibly drunk when I said that. I'm not 100 percent sure what I was talking about, but Spielberg took that to mean that the shark should hardly be shown, and that suspense is best built by caught breaths, good actors and a strong John Williams score. Needless to say, the kid as right. The Blu-Ray version of the film goes into the technical struggles Jaws had. I've asked that my part in the film not be mentioned, to keep the focus on Spielberg. But I feel damn good about my role in that film. Damn good, indeed. NFC NOTES -- I've blasted both Mike Shanahan and Kyle Shanahan before. Deservedly so. But I got to say, I like what Kyle is doing to fit the Washington offense to Robert Griffin III's skill set. This is what all coaches should be doing. Instead, we find most coaches trying to jam round pegs into square holes by forcing their philosophies on personnel ill-suited to them. That said, the way Griffin III is playing makes me think that just about any offensive philosophy would suit...

Fantasy 411 - Week 8 fantasysharks.com Tue 10/23/12 5:30 AM

Cam Newton is taking suggestions. The Carolina second-year quarterback told reporters that he was open to suggestions to get himself and his team on track after a 1-5 start on the heels of high expectations. The solution is simple in my mind. So, here is my suggestion to Newton and the Panthers on how they can right the ship and salvage the season. A year after flashing a dynamic offense in Newton's rookie season, the Panthers have failed to score more than 14 points in four of their six games this season. Fantasy owners likely spent a high draft pick on Newton expecting him to continue to develop as a passer and lead fantasy squads like he did last season. Last season the Panthers gave DeAngelo Williams a huge contract and followed that up with a new deal for fellow running back Jonathan Stewart this season. Consider that they also added multi-talented Mike Tolbert this offseason, and the Panthers appear to have the most talented backfield in football. But, seven weeks in to the season, all that talent has not translated to on-field success. Williams and Stewart were drafted in virtually every league and expected to provide flex help and fill in on bye weeks, but after an abysmal start, according to our friends at www.fleaflicker.com, the once reliable duo are among the most cut running backs in fantasy football. While many owners are giving up on Williams and Stewart, the fact is that a commitment and resurgence of the running game is exactly what the Panthers need if they want to salvage the season. With only 85 carries in six games for the duo, the Panthers have been abandoning the run and are simply not positioning the two to succeed. The remedy for the Panthers is to allow the running game to set up the passing game. Offensive coordinator Rod Chudzinski is a hot name in coaching circles and may be trying to be too cute and gimmicky with his play calling. There are no assurances that the Panthers get on track and put Williams or Stewart in a position to contribute to your team, but don't give up and cut them at this point. A returned commitment to the running game will relieve the pressure on Newton and open up the field for all their other players. A diagnosis of Newton might require as much a psychiatrist's couch as a fantasy owner's perspective. Newton has not shown the type of leadership you hope to see from your quarterback in press conferences. While he is taking responsibility and not looking to blame others, his antics ...

Vince Young knows not to put Dream Team label on Bills brunoboys.net Tue 5/15/12 9:13 PM

Vince Young seems to have accepted his role as a backup quarterback since being signed to a one-year contract by the Buffalo Bills on Friday, but on Tuesday, in his first general meeting with the media since his signing, he made it clear he wasn't going to be calling the Bills a Dream Team as he did the Philadelphia Eagles.

2011 Week 14 Preview: Saints at Titans brunoboys.net Thu 12/8/11 8:45 PM

THE STORY: The last time Matt Hasselbeck started against the New Orleans Saints, he and the Seattle Seahawks sent the Saints home early from the NFC playoffs. This time, Hasselbeck would settle for snapping the Saints' four-game winning streak and bolstering his team's own playoff hopes when the Tennessee Titans host the NFC South leaders Sunday. The Titans have won nine of their past 10 home games against NFC opponents, and they've won four straight against the Saints. In the most recent meeting in 2007, Vince Young led the Titans to a 31-14 victory in New Orleans.

Fantasy Intelligence Report - Week 13 fantasysharks.com Sat 12/3/11 3:06 PM

W.12.R. -- Week 12 Reactions - Stevie Johnson's touchdown dance sadly was perhaps the most exciting play of the New York Jets-Buffalo Bills game on Sunday. Unfortunately for Johnson though, it left a bitter taste in most viewers' mouth (not mine) that turned in to a super-sized Elmo laugh when he dropped what could've led to the game-winning touchdown. Fortunately for fantasy owners Johnson's overall production (8 receptions, 75 yards, 1 TD) is a clear indicator that Revis Island can be shutdown, as long as the receiver gets to the middle. - When Vince Young throws for 400 yards and Jason Avant (8 receptions, 110 yards, 1 TD) gets mistaken for Terrell Owens, you know that the opposing defense deserves to be ranked 32nd against the pass. The New England Patriots' pass defense is brutally atrocious, and it's not going to get any better unless someone besides Kyle Arrington starts making plays. - The Texans need to get a quarterback, and fast. Neither T.J. Yates nor Jake Delhomme are the answers, and sooner or later Andre Johnson owners may be wishing he was playing in Denver. I mean, you thought the Indianapolis Colts' passing attack was a hot mess? The only worthy receiver right now in Houston's offense until they sort out their quarterback dilemma is sadly running back Arian Foster. Keep that in mind this week. - Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz showed once again why he may be the team's best fantasy option period moving forward. Monday night was Cruz's five consecutive game with six or more receptions and 84-plus yards. It was his second consecutive 100-plus yard game. Supposed-to-be top option Hakeem Nicks has scored one touchdown, and has recorded six or more receptions just twice in the past five games. He hasn't gone over the 100 yard mark since Week 4. Put it in Cruz Control. N.N. -- News Nuggets According to the Indianapolis Star, the Colts will start Dan Orlovsky at quarterback this week against the New England Patriots. "Curtis Painter will not start this game," Colts head coach Jim Caldwell said Wednesday afternoon. Ironically, this will be Orlovsky's first start since 2008, when he was starting for the 0-16 Lions. What's the worst that could happen? According to the Forth Worth Star-Telegram, Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Demarco Murray was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for November. In the past four games, Murray has carried the pigskin 89 times for 434 yards and scored once. He also caught 20 passes ...

Start/Bench: Week 13 fantasysharks.com Wed 11/30/11 6:25 AM2 Comments

In this all-important 13th week of the fantasy season, there are several teams that will do their part in posting the kind of offensive numbers you may need to get your fantasy team into the playoffs. Find as many New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles, Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys as you can while avoiding the Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings this week. Happy hunting! I utilize statistical analysis combined with more than 15 years of fantasy football experience to give you an inside look of how players will perform on a week-to-week basis. The Studs list will be updated on a regular basis as players emerge and injuries occur, but be patient with those players listed early in the season. They were ranked and selected high in your draft for a reason. When using this list, try and remember a couple basic rules: 1) Studs -- Always play your studs. Each position will include a list of players that are considered studs and should not be benched. If you have the luxury of needing to decide between studs, check out the matchups or feel free to let the shark tank assist you in your decisions. 2) Depth -- Every fantasy team is different and some have more depth than others. Only follow the recommended moves if your team depth allows you to make such a move. Quarterbacks Studs Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay at N.Y. Giants Drew Brees, New Orleans vs. Detroit Tom Brady, New England vs. Indianapolis Cam Newton, Carolina at Tampa Bay Matthew Stafford, Detroit at New Orleans Eli Manning, N.Y. Giants vs. Green Bay Tony Romo, Dallas at Arizona Matt Ryan, Atlanta at Houston Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh vs. Cincinnati Philip Rivers, San Diego at Jacksonville Start Vince Young, Philadelphia at Seattle: With Michael Vick likely to miss a third straight game, Young should perform well against the Seahawks this week. Young has averaged 329 yards passing in his two starts with three touchdowns and four interceptions along with 45 rushing yards. Young was forced to throw often last week to try and keep up with the New England Patriots' high-scoring offense. This week, he'll be more efficient in the passing game minimizing his mistakes while still compiling some impressive numbers. Matt Moore, Miami vs. Oakland: In his last three starts, Moore has averaged just 225 yards passing, but combining that with the seven touchdowns and only one interception, and you've got yourself a very capable injury replacement...

Waiver Wire Wonders fantasysharks.com Wed 11/30/11 5:30 AM

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving and had a chance to gather with friends and family. I'm thankful for all that and the faithful that keep reading us here at FantasySharks.com. Thanksgiving is always a bit of a line as far as waiver wire relevance. With most leagues having closed up the waiver wire, we'll keep things going with a bit of a different format this week, grouping some newsworthy players by position in what will be more like a round table discussion. Thanks, as always, for reading. This week's column was written while hating the fact that so many key fantasy players have been declared out for the season in the last three weeks. Just painful to rely on a player for 10 weeks, only to have them swept onto Injured Reserve and be done for the season. Hopefully you have the depth to continue the fight to your league trophy! On to this week's story ... Quarterback Forced to choose between the lot of quarterbacks likely available, I'd rank them like this: Caleb Hanie, Jake Delhomme (long term), Kyle Orton, Rex Grossman ... and that's about it. Hanie (Chicago) is going to play and his job is safe. All he has to do is not make any mistakes and Matt Forte will do the rest. Nothing spectacular, but again the key here is that the Bears are, for better or for worse, stuck with him for the rest of the season. In a desperation move, the Texans signed Delhomme. Houston, to go along with a strong running game, has playoff hopes that they weren't going to trust in the hands of T.J. Yates. Apologies to those that ran out and took Matt Leinart, but now it is Delhomme that will eventually end up with the tools that are at the disposal of the Texans' starting quarterback. Orton saw the writing on the wall (actually, ‘Tebowmania' is being discussed everywhere) and got his ticket out of Denver. His attempt at getting to Chicago failed, and he ends up in Kansas City. While many will scoff that the Chiefs are a terrible place for him to land, I will go in the opposite direction. This is a perfect opportunity, with only Tyler Palko in front of him on the depth chart, for him to get onto the field and showcase himself for 2012. It won't be long before he's the starter, somewhere in the area of 200 yards and a couple of touchdowns are the expected fantasy output. I'd have Grossman further up on this list, but no one can seem to hold the starting quarterback job for the Washington Redskins for more than five weeks at a time. Three strong games in a ...
