Romo (back) has been cleared to practice this week, The Dallas Morning News reports. "We're really just taking his situation day by day," head coach Jason Garrett said. "He had two good days last week. Hopefully that can continue. We'll see how it goes over the next few days.
EDGE Analysis
Non-contact activity, including 7-on-7 drills and 11-on-11 work with the scout team, have been the extent of Romo's workload in practice to date. It's unclear if contact will be the next course of action, which could result in his first full session since sustaining a compression fracture of the L1 vertebrae in his back on Aug. 25. Because his conditioning is much improved when compared with last season's attempt at a return, owner and general manager Jerry Jones wouldn't rule out the possibility of active status for Romo this coming Sunday at Pittsburgh, according to Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Directing the offense is likely out of the question, though, due to Dak Prescott's admirable job under center through right contests.

Following Sunday's game win over Browns, Cowboys general manager and owner Jerry Jones did not rule out the possibility of Romo (back) being active in Week 10, Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports, but according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, it would be a "big stretch" for Romo to suit up against the Steelers.
EDGE Analysis
Romo's improved strength has impressed Jones recently, but despite those strides in his recovery, the quarterback reportedly still might not return to practice in full this week. Romo is slated for conditioning and change-of-direction work in his rehab sessions prior to Wednesday's start of practice, when another update on his situation should surface. As it stands, Romo's availability ahead of Sunday's game in Pittsburgh appears murky at best, and with Dak Prescott putting together another dazzling display in Week 9, the rookie remains the Cowboys' starting quarterback until further notice.

Romo (back) has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Browns.
EDGE Analysis
Romo was able to increase his practice workload to include some non-contact drills with teammates this week, but he still isn't healthy enough to be considered available to play. While another inactive status for Romo this weekend isn't surprising, Cowboys general manager and owner Jerry Jones expects him to be cleared to play in the near future. That being said, rookie Dak Prescott figures to remain Dallas' starting quarterback until further notice.

Cowboys general manager and owner Jerry Jones expects Romo (back) to be active in the near future.
EDGE Analysis
Romo practiced both Thursday and Friday of this week, ramping his workload up from solo throwing sessions to non-contact drills with the Cowboys' wideouts and tailbacks. While Romo isn't healthy enough to be considered to start, he should achieve active status sometime soon. It's still unknown, yet unlikely, whether that will be possible this Sunday against the Browns, but it's still encouraging to hear he's edging closer to being in uniform.

Head coach Jason Garrett does not "anticipate Romo (back) being active this week," NFL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Romo was able to practice on a limited basis Thursday and could get some work again Friday, but he is apparently not ready to take the field just yet. Assuming Romo is ruled out for Week 9, or at least declared inactive Sunday, Dak Prescott will have the starter's job all to himself for at least one more game.

Romo (back) was a limited practice participant Thursday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
After he skipped practice entirely Wednesday and instead focused on resistance training, there was a level of worry about his status. However, he took part in the entire stretching portion at the outset of Thursday's session, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.com, which was notably the first time he's done so during his recovery. Romo proceeded to add 11-on-11 snaps with the scout team to his regimen, another step up from last week's passes during 7-on-7 drills. It should be mentioned that his reps came after Dak Prescott and Mark Sanchez, so clearance is still likely in the distant future. No matter, Romo continues to march toward his long-awaited return, but the offense will remain in the competent hands of Prescott for the time being.

Romo (back) didn't practice Wednesday, David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Romo's fortunes appear to have changed from a week ago, when he logged a limited practice Thursday in shells and a helmet. While he wasn't seen during the portion of practice open to the media this Wednesday, he was working on resistance cords with the training staff afterward, according to Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News. Perhaps last week's return was a trial run to learn where Romo stood in his rehab from the compression fracture of the L1 vertebrae in his back, but he seems to be in the midst of the healing process rather than approaching its end. No matter when he's given the all-clear, the Cowboys will continue to trust Dak Prescott with quarterback duties.

Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones said Tuesday that he expects Romo (back) to be ready for games at some point near the end of the season, David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Cowboys want Romo to improve his conditioning and core strength, but it also seems Dak Prescott's excellent play has pushed the 36-year-old's timetable back. According to Helman, Jones said the team can afford to let the situation play out, perhaps hinting at a week-to-week approach whenever Romo is deemed ready. All in all, Jones' comments Tuesday seem to suggest Prescott will remain the starting quarterback for at least a few more games, though nothing sounded too definitive. The Cowboys are expected to limit Romo to 7-on-7 drills and scout team work for a second straight week heading into Sunday's game in Cleveland.

Romo will throw in 7-on-7 drills and lead the scout team in practice once again this week, according to coach Jason Garrett, the Star-Telegram's Clarence Hill reports.
EDGE Analysis
Romo's conditioning and core strength still need to improve, according to Garrett, so the veteran will remain relatively limited in practice again this week. That figures to allow rookie Dak Prescott to continue to start in Week 9 against the Browns, as Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said was his expectation following Sunday night's overtime triumph versus the Eagles.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he expects Dak Prescott, and not Romo (back), to start next week's game against the Browns following Sunday night's dramatic OT win over the Eagles, The Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Jones couched the decision as based on Romo's health, rather than the rookie's six-game winning streak. "My opinion is that we would want him to have more strength work done," Jones said of Romo. "He's really doing well. Probably as well as at any time last year as far as strength in his back is concerned. But he's got some more work to do." Nonetheless, if Prescott keeps producing wins, it'll become harder and harder for the front office or coaching staff to justify taking him out of the lineup.
